Hi All,

Just learnt LG have introduced (or soon will be) two new models - the SL80 & SL90 - I think they look freaking awesome - One is a LED backlit model (if only they offered them in Plasma! - just kidding!) Really looking forward to learning more about these and what they offer & how they will compare! The 42" & 47" SL80 models are already up on the US LG website and pricing seems quite reasonable overall and especially compared to some of the silly prices some new or expected sets are reputed to be asking for!

LG, just like everyone else is joining the LED-backlight party started by Samsung 3 years ago.

You surely mean "started by Sony with the 'Qualia 005' more than four years ago"?

(no local dimming and very pricey, though).

these look freakin amazing.. very impressive. I had my eyes on either a sharp 700un or sony z5100 but now I think I would prefer one of these sexy thin screens. I hope these will be out by the time black friday rolls around, which is when I want to buy a new tv..

LG updated their website recently with the msrp for the SL90 series. It is $2600 for the 47 inch and $2100 for the 42 inch.

The stated contrast of these edge lit LEDs TVs is 3 million to 1. This is actually higher than the 2 million to 1 stated contrast ratio of their LH90 series, their back lit LED TVs with local dimming.

I know that the stated contrast is generally meaningless. However these are TVs from the same company. So while it may not have a 50% higher contrast ratio, it should actually still be better in pratice.

I was considering buying the 47LH90 but seeing how the msrp for 47SL90 is only $200 more I guess I'll wait a little longer for some reviews first.

dang, I was hoping I could snatch up the 42inch SL90 for a grand or less by black friday.. but starting at 2k doesn't look like it will drop to that range.. maybe the non LED SL80 will be at that price range.

How much difference does the backlight make? you can never really tell when your looking at them in a shop because of the bright lights they have in there, looks nothing like it would look at home.

I'm seriously waiting for these to hit the stores and for some reviews to come out as the 47 or even better the 55 inch one would fit my TV spot perfectly. Will have to be really good for me to spend that much cash for a TV though.

I already own an older LG 37inch TV and it has a great picture.

Just picked up my 47SL80 this mourning. Got it setup and plugged in. Looks really clean with the continuous glass panel. I had to leave for work 10 minutes after I fired it up, but my first impression is the color stays fairley consistent while moving side to side, with a very slight loss of black level. I think I'll be very happy with this set.

I was just at Fry's and saw the 47" set for 1399. I am not an A/V-phile but I looked at rows and rows of TV's and this model really stood out. The thin bezel was real nice, the picture fills almost the full frame of the set. The thinnest of the unit was really nice, but in my layman's view the picture was really what made the set pop. I just said WOW that is a nice a set. (I know the store isn't the best place to provide an objective view of picture quality
but go take a look for yourself if ya have a Fry's nearby)

I just happened on this forum because I had to come home and see if that was a good price for the TV, it looks like it is since this just came out.

i saw the set at Frys as well and bought it!! 1399 and I got a free Bluray Player. I watched Xmen Origins Wolverine last night using my PS3 and the picture is cool, definitely not the best picture compared to more expensive sets. It's pretty thin though and the screen is pretty glossy. I returned the Lh90 due to lipsync issues and this set seems to be okay in that regards. As for the Bluray player I already use the PS3 and use a sharp in the bedroom so i'm giving a buddy this one. Will post more thoughts on the TV as I watch more content.

Hello THECRAZYKEVY...buydig dot come has the LH90 for $1579 right now. I was debating on getting the SL90, but after reading several comments on here and with this amazing price of $1579, i am going to jump on the LH90. Even Sears has it on sale through midnight tonight for $1599.
