so i have a this old b&o m150 speaker and i need to refoam it. the problem i can't find a kit that fits my speaker size. the cone is 6.375in and the frame is 7.75in. is there anywhere i can order a custom size, cause i'd like to save some money by doing it myself?

thanks in advance.

If I remember correctly, that's a very big speaker on a stand from the 1980s, right? (Not sure.) In any event, I would contact B&O. You may need a replacement driver. If you do the foam yourself or have someone do it, you may not be able to avoid air leaks through the foam itself, the material may be the wrong compliance, and you may use the wrong adhesive material. The foam has to be exactly the same as what was used new, or close to it.

For example, there is a poorly-engineered subwoofer that uses the same basic Eminence driver Triad uses in it's Platinum PowerSub. We had the surround (the foam suspension) reengineered so it would not leak any air. The other company did not, and they have far higher distortion and air noises below 30 Hz...ten times as much distortion. But hey...ANYBODY can build speakers!

Good luck. Rosewood cabinet??

you'd be correct. they're suppose to be sitting on stands(i dont' have the stands) and are rosewood(veneer i think). I got them off of craigslist and they're in surprisingly excellent condition except for the rotted surrounds. the highs and mids sound awesome, it would be nice if i could round out the sound by getting the woofers repaired. not sure if b&o will have replacement drivers for a speaker they made in 1980, and i'm not sure if i'd want to buy drivers that will probably end up costing more than what i paid for the speakers($170). my main objective with my audio system was getting good sound on the cheap(diy amp, diy usb dac).

thanks for the reply.

I'm trying to remember the exact price, but I believe they were over $1000 each. If you can get new woofers for $100 each, those speakers are well worth it. Don't ruin them with a different driver, which won't fit properly into the hole, and the mounting screws won't line up. The sound of that speaker was big, detailed, and they had authority in the bass. They were natural, but on the flat side. Still, they were excellent. And, God, that rosewood!

BTW, if ou can scam some original B&O stands for those, they lean the speaker back a bit and time-align the drivers. It makes a big difference. B&O was one of the first companies to address baffle diffraction and time-alignment of drivers.

man you're making me feel guilty, as if i'm betraying my first born or something... you are right though, the rosewood makes them very attractive. hearing you talk about the low end makes me ache even more to get these babies repaired properly.

i've been scouring for some stands for a while now but am coming up dry, everybody seems to have the s75's. best i can do is stick a book under them for now.

You might call B&O and see if they can do a dealer search, or if they have some in the warehouse. On an outside chance, you might call Carl at Audio Consultants in Evanston, Illinois. He may have a line on some...maybe. The stand allowed you to adjust the angle of the speaker to optimize the baffle relationship to the listening position. Dewd, these are pretty good speakers...
