The ax100 is marginally brighter in both high output and theatre calibrated modes and has a longer ( 2x ) zoom. It also has smoothscreen so pixel structure is invisable unless your right at the screen. The Panasonic also will probably be much much more popular and available from many more sources.

The Epson has more lens shift range and less zoom range ( 1.5x ) and is louder in high lamp mode. It's MAP is $400 less than the Panasonic. Epson has a very good reputation for customer service.

Both are very bright, very flexible and have had positive reviews. Are the few extra lumens, quietness, and smoothscreen worth the $400 differential to you? Only you can answer that.

Good luck!

Epson because of the 2 year warranty and service.

O the h70 by far is the best deal going. But you have to build your house around it to get it set up right.Surprise the DLP FAN BOY has not posted.HEHE.Back to reality.Really depends on what you want and how the littel things matter.I was also looking at the 400.But went with the ax100 for it's extra lumes and lower noise and other things.Plus i think it will keep it's value a littel better than the epson. Can't go wrong with either one really.BUDDA
Thanks a ton. I went with the Ax100, what's 400 dollars more.
I went with the Epson. They seem to have comparable brightness, i didnt need the additional zoom of the AX100 and the location of my projector will make fan noise a non-issue. The smooth screen technology was the only benefit that really made me question spending the extra 400, but i figured i could take that money and spend it on a new dvd player/cables.

Did you find someplace that had them in stock?
Just ordered the AX100 myself.

Noise is an issue for me and want to use it in high lamp mode sometimes and Epson makes a noisy projector.

Smoothscreen, I see SDE from 1.6 times currently...not that I make out the grid, but that you can see that hays of grey in white scenes and the occasional grid in certain color and lighting. SDE is not a deal killer, but if they have improved the sharpness and I get greatly improved lack of SDE, the $400 just isn't much to me.

It sounds to me from the reviews that the Panasonic is just making a better projector and I am willing to spend the extra $400 for all the features I want.
