The ax100 is marginally brighter in both high output and theatre calibrated modes and has a longer ( 2x ) zoom. It also has smoothscreen so pixel structure is invisable unless your right at the screen. The Panasonic also will probably be much much more popular and available from many more sources.
The Epson has more lens shift range and less zoom range ( 1.5x ) and is louder in high lamp mode. It's MAP is $400 less than the Panasonic. Epson has a very good reputation for customer service.
Both are very bright, very flexible and have had positive reviews. Are the few extra lumens, quietness, and smoothscreen worth the $400 differential to you? Only you can answer that.
Good luck!
