B&K reference 50?

1107 Views 16 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  DogBean
Is the 1.05 update done to the B&K reference 50 and are they shipping from the factory now with the update?

Can a dealer tell me if units they have in stock have update or not ?

You can go to their web site and get their PH # and give them a call. They are very easy to talk to. I did so when thinking of up grading my Ref 20. They told me the price and what was involved. I will be getting the ref 50 instead of doing the up grade. Oh! I have their number. 1 800 543-5252, in NY 716 656-0026

Hope this helps

Gary
The dealer should know what they are stocking. :)
When I talked with Gerry @ B&K last Wednesday he said they were still testing the upgrade/fix to some of the issues. He recommended that I wait two or three weeks and make sure the dealer specifies that they want a unit with the latest software/hardware (1.05?).

Any units in stock at a dealer won't have the version in test.
Does anyone know if 1.05 is complete now? I couldn't find that "Interesting news about B&K" thread anymore for some reason.
the more and more i read about b&k processors it reminds me of microsoft....

is the latest version out to fix the "bugs" in the last version????

really doesn't inspire alot of confidence in the company....
LOL - I just posted a few hours ago!

I guess I'll call tomorrow if I dont get any response tonight. I'm very interested myself. I was just hoping ChipE or someone who talks w/ Jerry on a more regular basis had any insight.
Tried a few times today but didn't get through to anyone other than the receptionist... Will try again tomorrow.
I just got off the phone with a B&K technical support rep.

They said the current update is 1.04

which has been out a while now. She did not know of any 1.05 update

being done at this time.

What are the issues they are supposed to be fixing anyway?

I haven't talked to Jerry in the last couple weeks. The Ref50 is a really good processor. Mine has 1.04 on it. The issues i've been dealing with are related to cooperation between my Ref50 and my HD cable box. Seems this AV/Sync issue has legs. My cable company installed a newer Scientific Atlanta 3250HD box. Now my HD locals are fine, no audio drops but i've got audio drops with HBOHD. This is apparently do to B&K supposedly following more "stringent standards" than SA or Comcast (my provider). I have no audio drop issues with satellite at all.

It's like this folks, as good as the Ref50 is for DVD,music,satellite,etc... it's not working with cable. I watch more tv than anything so i'm selling my Ref50. Version 1.04 installed, perfect condition. If someone wants a good deal, email me. Keeping the Ref200.5 & Ref200.2 amps

Don't know yet. I'm in no hurry either. Maybe a Denon 3805 or Pioneer Elite 55Txi receiver and use it for the processor.
Chip -

You may want to hold on another couple of weeks. I spoke with Jerry today and he indicated that they're in the final stages of validation of their updates. Not sure if it will fix the issues or not but It may be worth the wait.

According to Jerry - B&K and Comcast are working through the fixes with Comcast's network.

I'm holding off upgrading my Reference 30 to a 31. I assume these fixes will be incorporated into it?

I spoke with Jerry previously and the fix was supposed to be the Scientific Atlanta 3250HD, which Comcast has provided for Jerry and myself, and which hasn't completely solved the problem. Speaking with George (at B&K) today, he is basically walking away from the issue, blaming it on SA & Comcast. I stressed to him that B&K has an interest in this as well. I think the fix Jerry was speaking about is the 'popping' sound when changing channels. George told me today they will have this fix on the street (so to speak) within a couple weeks. My 507 will have to be shipped back to them for the modification.

How about for DirectTivos? I thought it was supposed to be more general than just SA/Comcast.
