Does anyone recall reviews or have experience with the older Matrix series of B&W 802's?

I have the oportunityto "benchmark" some other brands against the 802's...What should be aware of...i.e. where they known to be transparent, bright, muddy, etc..?

I figure if my speakers could hold their own against the $4K/pr B&W's....I'd be doing pretty well.

This comparison won't be the end-all...My ear will be the ultimate call...But if I could get a sense of what most people call "Superb" sounding speakers...it would be a great sanity check.

Thanks

I have heard the B&W Matrix 802's and I own a pair of Nautilus 802's but I haven't compared them side by side. I'm sure the Nautilus are a little better sounding and certainly look nicer, but, of course, they cost twice as much!!!

If you can find a good deal on a pair of Matrix 802's then I say go for it! These speakers definitely hold their value. I bought my N802's a couple years ago for a little over $5,000 (store demo), and could probably sell them for the same price. The Matrix 802's I heard were used for monitors in a mastering studio at the production company I used to work for. They are both definitely "superb" speakers... good enough to be used in some of the better mastering studios.
