Definitely the 800 series are in a different league than the 700 series. So they should be for the price difference. There is most definitely a law of diminishing returns though as you move up the price scale. I think that the 803 D3 is the sweet spot of the 800 series but definitely pricey!

I have owned multiple Rotel amps and been very happy with them. I have also owned Marantz, NAD and Krell amps. This time around I am going with some preowned higher end amps either from McIntosh or Classe.

How do you think the 805 bookshelf compares to the 702s2 tower? Take bass out of the equation because I’ve got subs anyway.

With a well integrated sub I'm sure the 805 will beat the 702s2 with ease.

I am talking about the older 805. In no way can I justify the cost of any new 800 series but I’m looking for good used deals on older series so it’s making me curious how the older series stands up to my 702s2’s

I heard the 702s2 and I just ordered the 805d3’s because they easily beat them imo of course. However, I also previously owned the CM10 s2 and I remember when I bought them the 800 series did in fact sound better I just couldn’t justify the cost at that time. What subs and amplification do you have now?

I ended up ordering the HTM2D3, I heard it powered by my Arcam and it sounded pretty damn good! I figured I now have my LCR for a WHILE and LATER on I can justify an external power amp.

D3 and Diamond/D2. If you move down to 805S or 805N... I'm not sure.

I'm currently using the 805 D2 for wide duty. They are spectacular speakers, and the D3 are even better.

Congrats on the new set! I doubt you will be disappointed. 805s should sing nicely in that room.

It’s so hard to make a decision with these things! I am also looking at the 705 S2, for half the price of the 805 D3 I’m told the 705’s produce about 75% of the sound of the 805’s. I could use that money to get a better/beefier amp. I need something with theater support as well as I watch movies as well so I don’t think an integrated stereo amp would be my best bet. Looking at either adding an Arcam PA250 or PA720 and using the AVR10 as a pre-amp or going for the Rotel RAP-1580MKII. Both about the same amount of money all around. I could also spring for a second sub close to behind the R channel (single sub right now behind L channel) which would have better bass response than most likely any small tower woofer I can afford.
805D3 + regular receiver will sound better than 705S2 + some beefy amp.

I've got 702s2's in my theater and im setting up a 2ch system in my office. Looking at getting some used 800 series. How do the 804s compare to the 805 and also how would those older speakers compare to my 702s2? will be connected to a Marantz 6010 -> UPA-7 -> Bi-amped because why not lol.
I had 804D3, 805D3, 702S2 all in my room at same time for comparison.
The 702S2's are the warmest of that bunch, the 805D3's are warmer than the 804D3's. The 804D3's are very bright. If you have a system with an EQ you could manage this with EQ. The 805 & 804's both have same awesome 800 series sound stage. The 702's lack this. The 805's + 804's have a slight bit more clarity. The 804's are slightly fully sounding although the 805's sound like they go as low as the 804s, but somehow the 804's feel like they're brighter but have more oomph.

My preferences here for music are:
702S2 > 805D3 > 804D3. <-- this might change with some good equalization.

Honestly the only 800's I like far more than the 702s2's are the 802D3's (and 800D3s). It's possible that the 702S2's for their price impressed me when compared to price of 800 series, however.

You didn’t happen to also listen to the older 805S and 804S and or non S version did you? I believe these are of the nautilus series. I assume when you refer to 805s and 804s it’s “‘s” (plural) and not the older S model before the diamond. I can’t go used diamond series they are too much at this point. Trying to keep it below $3500 for the pair.

Just ordered some 805D3's in Gloss Black. Will be running them off a Arcam SR250.

Correct, I'm referring entirely to the new D3 series and the 's' means plural. Sorry about that.

So I opened up my HTM1D3 and the styrofoam casing up top was cracked, immediately freaked out. However, no real damage to the speaker although it did have a small gash near the midrange looks like when it was made. Also there is this “stain?” best I could describe it on the top black gloss finish, I couldn’t remove it with a cloth, looks to be ingrained in the finish. Anyway, dealer told me to either hold on to it and they’ll order a new one or I can take the floor/display model for 400.00 off same warranty etc. He told me it was hardly used and it had no damages to body, I will inspect it today. However, one of the days I did a listen, there was a loud pop that occured when we were switching from one amp to another and the HTM1D3 was in fact connected. Any opinions on this? I guess the only positive here, other than the -400.00, that it’s broken in, perhaps too much though ? 😂

I would wait for a replacement ! That’s a nice gesture by your dealer though!
