B&W Speaker break-in time & Pop noise?

343 Views 1 Reply 1 Participant Last post by  Archangel
I have just purchased the B&W Nautilus 804's as fronts, Nautilus HTM1 center, and the Nautilus 805's for rears.

1.) How long should I let them break in before playing a sound intensive DTS DVD like "Saving Private Ryan" or "Apollo 13"? I have given them at least ten solid hours of medium to low volume Dolby Pro Logic 5 channel CD music. Last night viewed a romantic comedy (so no explosions) but was getting a bit concerned when the Radio Shack Sound Pressure Level was hitting the 77dB level. I want to be careful and break them in right...even though I am very tempted in throwing in a DTS DVD and letting them go!

2.) When turning the system off...I go in the order of DVD player, Pre-amp, and finally Amp...when I turn off the amp...a moderate pop comes over the rear speakers. Is this normal? I have checked and double checked all my connections. I am using bi-wire speaker cable for all five speakers...and the rear length is 9 meters each. Any thoughts?

Thanks for all your help.

Sam,

Thanks for the advice. I haven't yet calibrated them to the 75dB level with Video essentials. Thought I would wait until I got 15 solid hours in...I did calibrate the speakers through the pre-amp function...so as to get them all within 1 or 2 dB of each other.

I talked with my amplifier manufacturer and he told me the moderate pop I heard over the rear 805's was normal...it was one of the capacitors shutting down...he said it will do no damage to the speakers.
