Hi there,

I decided about 12 months ago to get back into CRT after going LCD and have had problems since about a month after getting a nice 6pgplus.

While waiting on bits for the plus, I picked up a 9pg fairly cheap and spent the last of my pennies so theres nothing left in the piggy bank.

The unit is in fairly good nick and has about 3500 hours on it, with what I believe are original tubes except for a blue which was replaced and has a spot burn on it.

The green tube has a light task bar wear pattern, and a slight wear pattern which covers about a third of my 16x9 raster, I can handle it by moving my raster up about 15 notches on the position shift and the wear pattern only shows up on some bright scenes and I am the only one in the house who notices it.

I am projecting onto a 106 inch wide 16x9 material screen, and currently need to run the projector at around 65 - 70 contrast to get a pleasant image, but 50 contrast is OK. When my 6 plus is finally up I will be custom making a solid screen along the goo type line and probably a bit smaller as I have 12 inches give in my ceiling mount to go closer.

I have been trying to get astig right on the green tube for about 3 days now, probably spent 5 hours solid on it, and I just get cranky. Blue is really good, red is acceptable but I know it needs tweaking, and green, is driving me mad. At first I thought my astig must be really bad as the unit starts blooming at about 40 contrast. The astig is HEAPS better than it was when I started but its still miles out on green, OR is it simply a tired tube thats blooming? the flare looks like a colour chart!

Is there electrical adjustments apart from astig in the menu's that has possibly been tampered with? I know the g2's were adjusted by the previous owner at some point. So far I have just checked the menu's are set correctly and been playing with the neck magnetics, basically I have a long piece of dowel with a hole in the end for adjusting and the step ladder for fine tweaking by hand.

HELP!!! Is it a tube or just me not doing astig well and I have to go back to projector primary school?

The image is GREAT with scan lines to about 2 meters on 576P after a quick setup but turn up the contrast and the green goes FUZZY!

JSP,

A few things to check. On the astig cluster the straight 9000 has 2 and 4 pole magnets only. If one of the tabs are broke off it will loose the magnetics required or if they were dropped it will crack and you wont know it. If that happens it will also loose its field.

Check the position of the focus yoke, is it pointing down like the others? Have you tried to slide it forward or back for optimum focus? You can sometimes rotate just a bit to get better control of astig. To check that set the astig magnets to the null field position, I think the manual show that.

In null you want the egg shape in the vertical plane, not side to side then you do the two and four pole magnets to correct from there.

On the deflection board there is a center focus pot for each color. Might check that for optimum looking in the lens first then check the screen.

If astig is off the test pattern will move when ramping center focus, use a cross hair or cross hatch test pattern to check. This will show two poll and four pole will flare to one side or top to bottom at extreme over focus

Check using a cross hatch pattern: Lower contrast down while looking in the lenses, set brightness to 60. All three tubes should be lit evenly at 0 or close to it depending on cut off. See if the green is overdriven. Doug
