Barco graphics 800 shut down problem

Good day everyone :)

Curt Palme helped me while ago:
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...hreadid=284820

I now realize that this first problem could have been a sound of an

arc/lightning ? (happened so fast hard to remember)

and after that it worked fine until now...

My barco graphics 800 turn off by itself after 10-15 minutes of normal

operation (no lightning/arc and no strange sounds when it shuts down)

I deleted all blocks to see if it was the electronic that had to

compensate too much for bad mechanical setup. Did not help.

I suspect the powersupply card (but P-supply card has been re-soldered

by a guy i Germany, he has a BG800 and a de-soldering machine, no

guarantee that his is good)

"error" LED on the black control board above the tubes is light after shut down.

The 7 big yellow LEDs act as normal.

Only one time the big red "scan fail" LED was light (first thread above)

I can turn it on again and it works another 10 minutes before it shut down

(it takes long time (hours) before i can turn it on after every shut

down)

Maybe a broken fuse or protection circuit ?

Which cards should i check ? I can check every solder by eye but

how do i check (with an ohmmeter) if a capacitor/resistor/transistor is

broken ? I checked the SMPS Power Supply board by eye and the solders seems to be ok.

hope someone can help me

Thanks for any ideas

i got this answer from Curt Palme by mail:

Are you saying that when the picture goes dark the red scan fail light is

not on?

If not, then check the small red LED on the EHT board, the one beside the

quadrupler. It is a bit hard to see when the board is in the set, but I'll

bet that one is coming on.

Let me know, and then I can guess what the problem is.

my answer:

yes the big red "scan fail" LED beside the other 7 big yellow LEDs is

NOT light when the picture goes dark.

So the little red LED on the EHT board is supposed to be lighting all

the time when the projector is operating ? i will check later today

thanks a lot for helping =)

Curts answer:

No, the small EHT light should always be off as well. With BArcos, green

lights are good, red lights are bad!..:)

Pretty clever, those Barco engineers!

Curt
:) of course :)

My observations from yesterday:

The little red LED on the EHT board (i think marked D8 in the service manual, infact the only LED on this board) was not light.

The big red "scan fail" LED was not light. The other 7 big yellow LEDs was light.

A little green LED i think on the SMPS Power Supply board was light (it is very easy to see on the projectors right side).

A little red LED i think on the on the N/S Corrections Horiz Shift board was light (it is very easy to see on the projectors left side).

and after 5 minutes it shut down automatically.

I was in a hurry last night (my girlfriend did think it was was boring ) *i don't understand* :) so i must confirm this 2 last observations so i am talking about the correct boards, sorry.

Confirmed observations:

was light.

A little green LED (marked D10) i on the SMPS Power Supply board was

light (it is very easy to see on the projectors right side).

CORRECTION:

A little red LED (marked D23) on the on the HORIZONTAL DEFLECTION

board was light (it is very easy to see on the projectors left side).

and after 5 minutes it shut down automatically.

I have a Data 600 with a similar problem. The unit shuts off when it is hot if the contrast is set too high and a bright image flashes on the screen. Additional cooling on the unit helps a bit. I had to replace an HV block when I bought the unit. I am not sure if this is related to the problem.
