Basic Question: 2 drivers in 1 sonotube?

1575 Views 6 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  DS-21
Does anyone know if a dual driver(up and down) in a single sonotube is a good design? Are there any plans floating out here?

I'd like to do duel sonotubes with a 15" (TC2000s) in each but space may force me to go with one tube.

thanks

Its a fine idea. someone actually did that and posted some pics/etc here.
Are you planning on doing one on each end? Two drivers side by side makes a very big sonotube, about 32", be sure you can get that through the door.

Yes...was thinking of both ends. if you look at the pic of my room, I was thinking of putting on right side of screen about 3 feet from screen wall next to the fireplace. It's not the corner but space wise its the only space I can put it.

thanks

Yes you can use two drivers. Many people have done that over at hometheatershack.

I am starting a SLLT Sonotube Loud Low Tuned subwoofer with a Soundsplinter RLP-15 and a RLP-18 this weekend.

Steve did a dual SLLT over at the LLT Explained thread of hometheatershack.

As long as the drivers are built to withstand horizontal mounting, and you can live with a minute performance decrease due to suspension sag, then sure. (Those points apply to a single-driver Sonotube, too. Some drivers aren't meant to be used on their bellies.)

Also, consider push-pull mounting (one with the basket facing out) because it may allow a slight reduction in distortion.
