As with many people one this board, I am interested in purchasing a Universal DVD-A/SACD player. I've heard my brother-in-law's DVD-A both without bass management and with an ICBM; as a result I'm inclined to believe that decent bass management is essential for multichannel audio.


So my question is: what is the best way to go about this? I have a Harman Kardon AVR-525 receiver, which claims to be able to redigitize the 5.1/7.1 inputs and perform bass management/time alignment, so I could buy a relatively cheap universal like the Pioneer DV-45A and use the bass management of the receiver. For more money, I could not use the receiver and buy an ICBM to go along with the DV-45A. Or for even more money, I could step up to something like the new Denon DV-2900 and use it's internal bass management.


So, which route would you recommend? Woudl I be happy enough with the
