Bassbox SPL calculation questions

412 Views 2 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  zinjashike
Greetings,

Wasn't sure if anyone knew this offhand, but how does Bassbox calculate SPL? Is it using a model assuming ground plane, anechoic, or other? Does how the sensitivity of the driver is calculated play into that as well (for example my driver sensitivity was calculated in half space)?

I've searched the manual, google, forums and haven't found any direct answer to this.

Yes, as well as most other environments. You can specify the environment in the software to account for room/cabin gain or just leave it out for anechoic, 1watt at 1m or the subs max SPL via its max power handling...
I use this program but there are members here who have more advanced software that I assume they built themselves from matlab, textbooks and actual knowledge of these subjects. They would take into account VC temperature with many other factors...
I would recommend buying a Dayton DATS V2 or V3 to measure the subs actual TS parameters after giving it a good break in. Usually FS lowers but it can measure a lot more than just speakers.

Good luck

I'm wanting to confirm it's anechoic - the sensitivity of the driver was measured in half-space so I want to see if the software accounts for that giving true anechoic or if I'm to presume that since half-space was used that's what I get out in relation to SPL.

I already have the T/S parameters, but I'm wanting to confirm max anechoic SPL so that I can then model boundary and room gain. If it's already taking half space or more into account that changes things.
