Bathroom Speaker Recommendations

495 Views 7 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  RayGuy
I am looking to install a couple of in ceiling speakers in our bathroom. The primary area of concern is the shower and vanity which is 83 cubic feet. We have our closet which is attached to the main bathroom that is an additional 68 cubic feet which is secondary concern. I have been looking at the Focal 100 ICW5 speakers paired with a Yamaha 202 receiver for bluetooth connectivity. We will never have a sub or any other item hooked up to the bathroom speakers, they will solely be used for music played over b/t via pandora or tidal. Are there any other recommendations? I don't plan on installing the speaker directly above the shower but we still need the speaker to be humidity resistant.

Revel XC series.
You might consider dual voice coil speakers. These speakers allow you to run both the left and right channels to a single speaker, which then produces the sound of both. When using vertically oriented speakers, you typically have very narrow coverage in the room, so if you are off-center, you will often only be able to hear one of the two stereo speakers. Dual voice coil solves this problem.

As to which speakers to use? Lots of options, but avoid all paper and metal drivers in a humid environment.

Maybe something like this:

Perhaps three speakers? One for the shower area, one for the vanity area, one for the closet. You will need six amplifier channels to drive these speakers ((L+R) x 3), or two channels and an ohm-protected speaker selector with six speaker channels.

I second this^

I use this in my bathroom: https://www.outdoorspeakerdepot.com/outdoor-ceiling-speakers.html. 8 years running without an issue. I use it almost every day.

1 thing: insulate well, or use a back box for best results

Thank you for your suggestion, I will look into these. Do you think this can be installed directly above the shower?

I have plenty of attic so a back box shouldn't be an issue, thank you for your feedback I appreciate it!

That's a question for the manufacturer, but I don't see why not, assuming you have an effective exhaust fan.
