Batman Kicks Serious Booty!!!

As of 10-06-06 12:20 PST BB was ranked 99 on Amazon.

Has any HD disc title ever broken the Top 100 before?

Well, they've "Begins" too!!! ;-)

Things I LOVE about being ranked 99;

1. HD disc is successful!

2. HD DVD is successful!

3. By the time the BD version of BB is released, 'everyone' will own it on HD DVD!!! :p

Actually, BB broke into the top 30 earlier - I believe it peaked at #27 on amazon a couple of weeks back.

Everyone knows HD-DVD is kicking the crap out of BD...it's just a matter of time before the list of exclusive studios becomes smaller and smaller.
This is kind of old news, but great to see an HD DVD title still hanging in the Top 100 after several weeks.
Funny thing is everyone kinda already owns Batman Begins now thanks to Target. So even with all those cancelled pre-orders it's great to see that it is still performing so well.

Thats correct, in fact if I'm being picky it actually did slightly better and peaked at #26
I dont think studios will start switching over until they see that big PS3 sales does not mean big bluray sales. Now, since PS3 will have small shipments this year, if HDDVD can do really well this holiday season, including penetrating 360 users, and by summer Bluray disk sales are even more of a joke than they already are compared to HDDVD, it will be a risk for a studio to go into a 2007 holiday and Q1 2008 with bluray only and no plan for hddvd, because they are potentially just throwing money away. Still I think it wont be until 2008 that this war is starting to become clear. By then dual players will probably be out anyways. When that happens it will be interesting to see how the players are priced compared to the expensive PS3. I was gonna get a PS3 but the big price and lack of must have game made it easy for me to stick with my 360 and hd dvd player for now. But yeah back to batman, after reading all the reviews, this disc is the full package. The question is, who isnt buying it? Im getting mine from Target on tuesday!

Other retailers are going to be quite mad about Target releasing the movie early. It killed a lot of their sales......

Well, even though I was "wrong" & thanks for the corrections, has any "other" HD DVD title broken into the Top 100?

And, what's Kong going too do!!! :-0

Or, will the free disc with 360 add-on 'kill' "sales"?

When I preordered my 360 HD-DVD player, i went nuts at Amazon and this was one of the titles. Since I'm not actually getting the player until late November, I just had them throw it all in one shipment. The last release is The Thing, so I should get the whole order around early November. It's Amazon, so who knows, but I'm hoping that the current releases like Goodfellas they "sold" in their computer so they won't be short stocked of the title.

Personally, I have the SD-DVD Batman but couldn't bring myself to watch it. Old-school DVDs look awful on my projector (Mits HC900). With all the dark scenes in the movie, I'm sure it would have been brutal. I FULLY expect the HD-DVD to rectify this, and good, I haven't seen it since in the theater and have been dying to watch it again.
Batman Begins went as high as 26 on amazon right after it was available for pre-order. I'm very surprised that King Kong only made it to 79 before dropping back out. I thought for sure that King Kong would surpass Batman Begins in pre-orders.
How high did Sleepy Hollow get when it was priced so low?
Sleepy Hollow was in the top 100, as well as T3. As someone pointed out Batman reached as high as #26. Actually I saw it at #19 at one point.

Blame target..... I'm only ordering "can wait HD DVD titles" from Amazon. Everything else will be from Target from now on since we'll see amost every target stocking HD-DVD titles. Does target provide release date discounts on HD-DVD titles?...

Who knows. I don't think the Kong SD-DVD sold particularly well, but I could be wrong. Personally, that will be a disc I skip through to the "good" parts. That movie needed an editor like no other.

I'm still counting myself lucky, though. I'd rather have a long movie full of good parts, then get overly excited over "Kingdom of Heaven" or "Click". Poor Blu Ray owners.

Polar Express also popped into the Top 100 for a brief while.

I thought I read somewhere that Kong was one of the best selling dvds ever.

Don't have the totals, but first week was nothing to sneeze at-

Released as a single DVD and two-disc set on March 28, the Peter Jackson film logged Universal's best first-week sales in studio history, in six days selling 6.5 million copies for a take of more than $100 million.

The film's brisk DVD sales add to its worldwide box-office haul of $550 million. Its ticket sales make "King Kong" the fourth highest-grossing film in Universal's history, following "Jurassic Park," "E.T." and "The Lost World: Jurassic Park."

Mission: Impossible boxset was in the top 100 as well for awhile (I think around 50 if I'm not mistaken)

Has a Blu-Ray disk topped 1,000 yet? :D
Holy Molly!!!

Was I WRONG!

There have been, what, five or six HD DVD's in the Top 100?!?!?!?!?!

That's amazing, as I thought HD DVD would only be a niche this year, never able to compete with SD DVD.

(nothing against HD DVD, just thought there wouldn't be enough players to compete w/SD)

Great to be so wrong.

Has BD even broken into the Top 2000? ;-)

Just keep funneling your dollars into HD DVD and rent any non-participating studio's product. We can decide who wins this format war through the power of our wallets.
