I have had the JPN PS3 for a while, mainly playing JPN/US games, but yesterday borrowed a BD title for the first time. I have a question on both video & audio. I thought it may be a setup issue on the PS3 so started looking thru the sticky too (and still reading as lot of posts
).

- PS3 video is connected to my HDTV directly via components.

- HDTV is of an earlier gen Mitsubishi (55819) that accepts natively 480i/480p/1080i (can't accept native 720p but will upconvert(?) to 1080i). Component is the best available input on this HDTV; no DVI, HDMI or any other inputs that came after component.

- PS3 audio is connected to an Marantz receiver (SR7000) via optical & the recevier decodes DD5.1 and DTS.

- The BD's sleeve says 1080p, TrueHD, DD5.1.

While playing back the BD, the Mits was registering only a 480i feed; receiver was only seeing stereo. Shouldn't I be able to see 1080i and hear DD5.1? Does it seem like a setup issue?

Thank you,

Tak

yes, you should be able to get 1080i and you should be getting 5.1. i'm connected using component and optical as well and everything works perfect for me. check all your settings in the ps3. i'm not sure which ones you need to check though, sorry.

Check the PS3 settings... something is wrong for sure. My receiver (a Panasonic SA-XR55) doesn't have HDMI switching so I use component + optical to connect my all my devices to an older Sony Rear Projection HDTV. Works perfectly, I get 1080i video + DD5.1 audio during Blu-Ray playback.

check the display and audio sections on the ps3 and make sure you have the correct boxes checked off

Another thought make sure you plug the PS3 in the proper component input, I know on my older Mits I have 3 component inputs 2 are 480i/480p only and 1 is 480i/480p/1080i.
