I think this is misleading.


I firmly believe that you will be able to download an unprotected copy of the movie way earlier than 10 years after its released.


I think the copy protection will at least be circumvented via some sort of HDMI recording mechanism that appears to be HDCP compliant if nothing else.

 

I think this an invitation to some computer wiz sitting by his monitor. Right now he is just sitting there laughing. there is nothing the engineers of these companies can come up with that the hackers out there can't come up with too. This is the same for all media formats. Those hackers are the experts. Not the engineers. I don't condone the illegal copying of these disks in any way, but I am also not naive in thinking that all others are honest with this stuff. 10 years is a dream case scenerio.

I think what he is saying is misleading, not what you are posting.


I think the content being protected will be made available without completely breaking BD+.


So for him to say that it won't be broken for 10 years is misleading because the content will be released to the wild even if the copy protection isn't completely bypassed.

Not sure who Richard Doherty is and whether or not he has been employed by the BDA in any capacity, but this means very little to me unless it is coming from the Doom9 guys. Yes, BD+ may be more secure than AACS on paper, but the proof will be in the pudding after the Doom9 guys take a crack at it...

He's a Media Analyst for the Envisioneering Group it seems..

 

Even as a bigtime blu-ray supporter, that is comical.

At the end of the day BD+ discs will be playable through software on PCs. And that means its practically destined to be hacked.


Every time I read something about BD+ its always to do about limiting the damage to a player, deactivating the player, whatever the player... Movies are not making it onto newsgroups, torrents and pirated DVDs because of compromised players.

I doubt BD+ will stand up all that long and I'm pretty sure that certain insiders are hoping it fails miserably. BD+ working well would be a real blow to HD DVD IMO, since people can think that Universal doesn't care that much about this stuff, but if BD+ shows itself to be effective in ways that AACS hasn't been, then I think we will find out fairly quickly that Universal does care. And a similar thing with the BD ROM-Mark.


I want to see BD+ put out so we can find out the truth instead of just speculating about what will happen with it, though.

it's comical that doherty actually believes this... hook... line... sinker.


BD+ will be cracked within weeks and get negative feedback that could last the formats lifetime. that's a pretty silly gamble right there.

 

The only digital media format not to be hacked is SACD and that is probably becuase it was not allowed near a PC for playback and also becuase it wasn't popular. Bluray embraces PC based playback, BD+ wont last 6 months. This guy underestimates the incompetence of the HD playback software programmers.

Thats the beauty of AACS, it has to be re-hacked over and over. So in the truest sense of the term, no it hasn't been completely hacked.

It's the PC that's the problem.


And there is another safe digital platform that wasn't ever hacked. Anyone ever use DTheater as a source for pirated content? I could be wrong ... but I don't think so. Those tapes don't play on a PC.

 

What will this cost the companys using BD+ on top on the huge AACS fee?

 

For every day, the BD+ remains unbroken, it builds credibility with ALL of the various studios to go exclusively Blu Ray. HD DVD has been broken. Blu Ray has not....and protecting the titles is what the studios want most.

 

I wish he wouldn't make claims like these

 

A pure joke and a prediction he will come to regret. It will be hacked and wihin weeks not years. Way to throw down the gauntlet to the hackers. Some will never learn.
