BD30 and Onkyo 605

I have the Panasonic BD30 and Onkyo 605 and I am trying to get Dolby TrueHD. The Onkyo displays "Dolby D" on the front screen. I have the BD30 set to bitstream and secondary audio to off. What audio settings should I apply to the Onkyo? Thanks

Well you have the right settings.

You are connecting the player to the receiver with ONLY HDMI cable?

What titles are you using?

Have you tried another movie?
Have you tried pressing the display button on the remote to see if it changes? I have the same receiver but don't have any components that pass the advanced bitstream codecs so I can't be certain.

You should be getting a light or something the 605 to note that you are decoding a Dolby TrueHD or DTS-MA track. As stated earlier, make sure what ever movie you are playing has Dolby TrueHD and not just Dolby Digital Plus.

Make sure you select the TrueHD track on the BD you are playing. Most BD's default to the standard DD or DTS audio tracks which means you need to specifically select an HD audio track from the set-up menu of the BD. If, by chance, the BD you are using is Resident Evil: Extinction, there is a known problem with the BD30 identifying the TrueHD track properly. Other than that, a BD with TrueHD will play just fine through the 605 and the 605 will display TrueHD.
The player and reciever are connected only with an HDMI.

The movie was 300, which has TrueHD according to the back cover.

I tried going into the menu but could not find any audio settings.

I then put in Direcors Cut Kingdom of Heaven and DTS Master Audio appeared, so it worked for that movie. I am not sure what happened with 300 but I will play around with it and see what I can find. Thanks for the help and keep the tips coming.
I also have the Onkyo 605(hooked to HD-A35) "300" defaults to Dolby Digital. I believe you have to go to the language settings in the movie menu to select Tru HD. Hope this helps. I'm also looking into the BD-30 and will probably buy a BR player shortly.
Thanks Cyber, I will check that out. Let me know if you have questions about the 605 BD30 combo as I will be playing around with it a lot over the next few weeks.

Correct.

If the disc does't have a setup menu for audio selection, look in the Language menu.

The 605 will audio detect the bitstream. So if you are seeing DTS HD, then you should see True HD if it's receiving it.
I went through my BluRay collection and found 6 that have TrueHD or DTS MA and after searching through the language or audio setup menus, was able to get them all to bitstream the lossless audio. It sounded incredible- blew me away. Thanks for the help everyone.

Shamrock, what are your crossover frequencies and settings on the 605? I just got one last night and am missing some bass punch. I have the Panny 10A. I also purchased a Panny BD-30 but haven't hooked it up yet and thinking of waiting for the BD-50. So bitstreaming lossless is worth it?

The Onkyo 605,705,805,875 series all have Audessy EQ system. If you just got your 605 you need to run the Audessey EQ. While it is not perfect it does a good job of not only detecting proper cross overs but also speaker calibration, and distance delays.

Make sure you place the EQ mic at ear level, use a tripod, don't stand in room while it is running, and don't try to hold the mic. You need to run the EQ from 3 positions but you can run it for up to 8. Start from the most used position and work outward (the positions are weight balanced).

Thanks. I ran the Audessy last night and while it got speaker distances right, etc (pretty amazing), I didn't care for the sound or lack of bass after it ran. I have floor standing fronts and 3-way bookshelf surrounds. It set the front to full-band but I have heard others say you should set the crossover higher to force the more use of the sub. Thoughts?
I am about to pull the trigger on this combo tonight. Any recommendation on type of HDMI cables to get ie 1.3a? I require a 20 foot run for my projector and a 3 foot for player to receiver.
A great combo. Be sure to read Onkyo instruction manual carefully.

Make sure your sub doesn't already have cross over enabled.

Some subs have a special LFE input that is full range. Others you just need to turn off cross over or turn it as high as possible.

With Audessy EQ it is expecting the sub out to be full range so the EQ sets the crossovers properly. If sub has cross over set and EQ has a cross over set it confuses the EQ (i.e if EQ sets cross over to sub at
