I found most things work well, but one bug I found already: I eject the Dolby TruehD demo blu ray while it was playing, when I put it back in and pressed play teh tray closed, the player loaded the disc. Then the screen said resume. Which it did fine, but it played video without audio. I selected a different track and audio was there then.

Nice work on the initial release Jason et al. Very refined for starters.....

I played the Dolby TrueHD demo BD picking different demo's, ejected disk several times, pressed play, then it loaded and restarted the sample disk. Never saw resume. Just Open, close, load, stop, then 00:00.

I have HDMI CEC set to limited. 36 Bit Deep Color = ON. 1080P/24 =ON

I just tried the BDP-83 with same setup to compare, and did the same routine, couldn't resume each time either with sample disk. Have to do more testing with other BD's.

DVD-A playback is far from smooth. Only tried one disc so far, (Riding With The King), and it would not respond to remote commands. But it would respond, sort of, to front panel controls.

Weird, I tried RwtK earlier with no problem. I was useing my uni remote though, maybe that made a difference. I'll test it again.

I tried the disc again, and had no problems at all navigating with the OPPO remote.

3 possible things for you...

You said you put the player on top of a hot component and your player was HOT. This can cause playback problems for sure.

You may also need to replace the batteries in your remote.

Last but not least, you may have forgotten to take you Centrum Silver today.

For this beta I'm just going to post what I send to Jason.

Code:
Code:
BDP-80 Beta report #1

Firmware: BDP80-03-0710
Loader: BT0209 85750209
MCU: MCU80-04-0519

AVCHD

Does not play AVCHD from USB. I just get the logo screen.

After trying this the player gets into a mode where just about every disc
displays "Wrong disc!" and is ejected. Cycling the power fixes it.

It does play AVCHD from disc.

I'm using AVS HD 709 v1.2b for testing.

CALIBRATION

    (1) None of the color spaces are showing BTB or WTW on my display. I believe
the 980 might have had the same behavior, but the 983H and BDP-83 showed
    them on RGB Video.

This is when the player Brightness and Contrast are set to 0. I can pull
the bars into view by moving the controls off 0, but don't do this for
    real viewing.

    (2) Sharpness is only 0--2. Maybe it is just me, but for DVD I see ringing
at the lowest setting and wish it were possible to adjust this lower.

COMPONENT VIDEO

I'm getting bad results on component output. Strong green tint and
    frequent red horizontal stripes.

I checked my cables. If no one else is seeing this I'll look more closely
and compare with the other players.

REGION CODING AND PAL

I've verified that my player is region locked for DVD. PAL region 0 plays
    ok.

REMOTE

The Audio and Subtitle controls are not pop-ups yet.

Turns out that the cheap people at Oppo sent me bad batteries. Replaced the remote batteries and all seems well, including DVD-A.

I've often wondered how many years those type of batteries are sitting in the back corner of a Chinese warehouse before they're sent out to companies like OPPO.

I'm quoting this but directing to anybody. For the 83, did most people send additional reports to Jason directly that were not posted here in the forums? Was this in addition to posting here, or in lieu of? Or only for urgent items?

Sounds like the 80 testing is going to go much quicker than the 83.

I think the 80 is near to release.

In the past, Jason and the engineers have been reading these threads, but if you want a direct response from Jason, best to email him.

More often than not I think they are way ahead of us on the bugs.

I make complete reports to Jason (care to guess how many?) and discuss hot topics here.

I'm getting the same disc loading error as the -83, it tries to load a disc as a data disc instead of what it should be. So far it's only happened when loading DVD-A.

Beatles Love DVD-A plays seamlessly with no errors, so I guess they can leave that DVD-A logo on the player.

Another thing: I don't want to bug Jason with the same things over and over, so I wait until a new firmware appears, test things I think are not right, then include them in a "Known Bugs and Limitations" section. Repeat with next firmware...

Makes sense as this is the 0710 FW and today is 8/9. Who know if this is current beta FW?

I can confirm the problem with BTB and WTW. I can see WTW when adjusting Contrast, but the control is behaving erratically... and there's a strange shift between the -7 and -8 setting.

I can also see ringing on the vertical edges of DVD test patterns. Raising the Sharpness control above 0, causes the ringing on vertical edges to worsen, but has no effect on horizontal edges.
