You guys get into some pretty heated discussions, which is typical for any forum I suppose. I thought I'd lighten things up with a short story.

I purchased my Panasonic ReplayTV 2 days ago. Before that, if I walked in 10 minutes late to see Friends, I had to monitor NBC without really "watching" it in order to wait for a commercial...then I would rewind VCR1 which had been recording the show, while resuming recording of NBC on VCR2. Then I could then watch the first 10 minutes of Friends. Once done with that segment, I had to repeat the process again with VCR2, rewinding VCR1 to record the next chunk. I really did this...can you believe it?

I was having SOOOO MUCH FUN tonight with my new toy. We decided to watch the Replay of yesterday's Real World starting around 8:05.

The wife said, "Aren't we going to miss Titans?"

"Not to worry my dear. Replay Man is here!"

23 minutes later we started watching Titans, followed by West Wing. The neat part is that after skipping the, -ahem-, "unwanted scenes"...we actually ended up catching up to the live show just in time for next week's scenes. 2 1/2 hours of television in just under 120 minutes. How cool is that?!? http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif

ReplayTV is 4Me.

P.S. Now can I have my serial number added to that alleged 3.0 Download list? Or do I have to wait for Panasonic to say "ok"? http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/wink.gif

P.P.S. Seriously though, glad to see a such a lively forum with interaction from Reply. Great feedback loop for continued development and support of the product and service. It can only get better.

I recall a story about someone who had a setup with two VCRs that they phyiscally hacked to help them timeshift. Basically, the recording VCR recorded on tape that wasn't feed onto a spool, but instead was loose. This loose tape would feed into the second VCR, with a bucket between the two to catch the excess tape.

So, when the recording VCR was 10 minutes into recording, there would be 10 minutes worth a tape in the bucket. They could then play the beginning part of the tape without having to wait for it to end recording. The only restriction would be that the couldn't get any closer to "live" than the distance of tape that would span the two units. http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

What a wonderful age we live in that has such things as PVRs. http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
