Belkin router and strict NAT - at my wits end

This used to work fine. For months I had it set up and working with no problems. Now I just cant get it to work.

I am on Comcast with an Arris modem (no dhcp or router type properties built into it. I just also double check my router has upnp enabaled and working.

Ive tried both with these DNS servers and with Comcast's default of 75.75.75.75 and 75.75.76.76

no amount of plugging and unplugging or restarting will do the trick. any more ideas will be welcomed.

Is the modem from Comcast or your personal? Also are you in a House or an Apartment? Do you have Comcast Cable in the same room with the modem? What exactly is "IT" you can't get to work?
I'm surprised the connection didn't crap out on you having the Xbox in both the DMZ as well as having forwarded ports to it.

so cold booting the router and the cable modem didn't fix things? whenever I saw strict nat and nothing had been changed, rebooting (cold, not hot or via software) the modem and the router fixed things. if you haven't changed anything and it's always worked, maybe your modem or router is starting to fail...
its comcast's modem in an apartment/condo.

the signal is split two ways coming out of the wall - to the modem and to my htpc cablecard tuner for tv service.

I cant get the nat to go from strict to open.

ive also tried enabling the dmz but not port forwarding, and vice versa.

Either way you need to get the new Wireless Gatway Router that Comcast has. Any other modems like the one you have are outdated. If you have a Comcast nearby you can take that in and swap it out with the new models. You can try this, take the 2way off and just connect the modem and see what happens.

or just get your own router. thats what i do. makes it a lot easier.
I'd recommend getting your own router as well. I gave up trying to get assistance online trying to get an open NAT (forwarding ports, DMZ etc..). I recommend the Netgear WND3700. I didn't have to do anything or change any settings within the router to have an open NAT. I even plugged my router into the Verizon provided router (which is a pretty robust router in itself but couldn't get open NAT on it either). I just put my router into the DMZ of the Verizon router and connected all my devices to the Netgear router. I haven't had any issues with having an open NAT even after four moves in 2 different states with 3 different cable providers.
I have my own router. No problems forwarding ports for htpc software
I had this issue with my X1. I ended up disabling port forwarding and upnp. Did a hard reset on the X1 and it removed it from strict.
Everyone keeps saying to get his own router when he already has his own router. The issue is either the cable lines, Ingress(signal leakage), RF connector on those lines or his modem. It could possibly be a combination of any or all of those things. The modem is outdated and needs to be upgraded from Comcast. The new modems are the wireless Gateway Modems(Modem/Router combo)

Or you buy your own modem but understand Comcast does not troubleshoot personal modems or routers.

There is definitely ingress on my line. When I had a third split going into a qam/atsc/fm tuner I was able to pick up most fm channels via the qam line, so I know there are radio signals leaking into it.

My tv service and internet performance never seemed to be affected so I never thought anything of it. It was kind of a bonus that I could use the FM tuner while receiving clearqam channels. I might have to investigate that a bit further.

IMO the first thing you need to do is have someone from Comcast check and make sure your service lines and other lines in the complex you are in are good. Ingress can come from other apartments if they are all on the same splitter. That way if it gets fixed then that either resolves the issue or you only now need to troubleshoot the modem/router.
I had the same problem and had to change my port forwarding completely. Since I am no authority on different routers and how port forwarding works, these are the ones I was given and it worked 1st time.

I was told to put them in exactly like this. I guess you can compare it to yours and see if something is different.

Anyone chime in if this wouldn't work in his situation and he would be wasting his time.

I never understood why Live would require that all inbound HTTP, DNS, and IPSEC traffic be routed to the Xbox. These never made any sense. What if you have 2 Xbox's? What if you were running a web server on your network?

On a side note, being in the IT profession, I have yet to find any real explanation of what "STRICT" and "OPEN" NATs are outside of the Xbox environment. NAT is a common term, but my colleagues that are in Information Security or are Cisco-certified engineers have no idea what this concept is.

It doesn't. I ran 4 Xbox 360s at a time with no issues. I now have 3 Xbox One and 2 360s along with 3 computers and tablets with no issues on my network currently with 105MB download & 25 Upload.
