Some lukewarm reviews kept me away from this for a while, but what a nice surprise. The story is suspenseful and the acting is good, but what really caught my ear was the audio mix. LFE - any film can pop the sub with explosions, but what really gives the HT a sense of understated power is that sustained low rumble, and Below delivers plenty. Surrounds - nice use of effects from eerie whispers to buckling bulkheads. The effect made my HT part of the submarine, and I could almost feel the walls straining under the weight of the ocean. On my way back upstairs I had to stop periodically so as not to get the bends. All this and my setup is only DD5.1. Can only imagine what DTS and a rear channel would be like.
