Hi,

I have successfully upgraded my Benq 1080ST from Firmware Version 1.03 to 1.05, all went fine but I think Benq has increased the speed with which the fans are running by default, with 1.03 I was running the projector in "High altitude" mode and the noise was still OK... If I now with 1.05 run the High alt modus it sounds like an airbus is starting in my room and also in normal mode its more noise than before in "ha" mode.... As i didnt found any major improvements and the displayed temp. is more or less the same than before iam thinking about to downgrade the projector to 1.03 again.

Has anybody done this before ? Is it possible ? I know that you cant downgrade some devices (like the PS3) once you have upgraded to a newer firmware.

Thanks for the answers.

Cheers Vader...

Hey there,

1.05 is the equivalent version of 1.08 on the W1070; and I found the same as you.

I posted here:

I found that High-Altitude Mode was actually being ignored under earlier firmware when Smart-Eco was on (ie, the fan would reduce to regular speed after a few minutes of being powered on, to the same speed as when HA mode was off.)

This was actually 'fixed' in 1.08 (or 1.05 for your W1080); so I'm guessing you're running in Smart-Eco, right?

If so, you've actually been running with High-Altitude mode off since it appears it wasn't functional under previous firmware when running in Smart-Eco.

So yes, you can downgrade: but if you want your fans back to how they were, just switch High-Altitude mode off :)

Hi Kreeturez,

Yes Iam running the projector in the smart Eco Modus, but I dont agree that the 1.03 FW ignores the High Altitude Mode, I have written down the fan target speeds before and after downgrading to 1.03 again, here are the figures:

1.03

Normal                          High Altitude

Fan 1: 1900                   2300

Fan 2: 2100                   2100

Fan 3: 1700 - 3100        2300 - 3500

Fan 4: 2000                  2000

1.05

Normal                          High Altitude

Fan 1: 2800                   3500

Fan 2: 2500                   3800

Fan 3: 3100 - 3500        3200 - 3500

Fan 4: 2200                   3300

All number taken after projector running for  ~2-3 hours.

So as you can see the High altitude speed on 1.03 are higher than on normal mode but still a lot lower as the normal mode on 1.05

So I will stay on 1.03 till some real great improvement or new features are implemented in a new firmware.

Do you know a webside where I can get changelogs for upcomming firmwares, ect ?

So you found that fan speeds increased on normal (non-High-Altitude) mode? That's odd; the changelog indicates the opposite ('Noise improvement') and I haven't seen any reports around here of noisier fans in this mode for those that upgraded firmware to this version. Your fan speeds in Normal mode went up pretty significantly after upgrading. Very strange...

EDIT: Actually, from your fan speeds: it appears that there was very little difference between Non-HA and HA modes under previous firmware: the only significant change seems to be Fan 1 (and maybe 3); the remaining ones were similar between the two modes. Contrast that to 1.05 where the difference is significant among all the fans... I'm still not totally convinced HA mode was working (or working properly) before under Smart-Eco

(That said, I did find it worked OK when Normal or Eco lamp modes were selected).

Generally, changelogs are posted around here; here's the last changelog:

So you'd keep an eye on this forum for the changelogs: they're normally published at the same time as the firmware is released!
