I received a new lamp for my BenQ 8700. After about 40 minutes, the red light on the projector comes on and the lamp shuts off. It appears the lamp overheats. The projector remains on. The only way to shut the projector off is by flipping the switch on the back of the projector. The fan seems to be on low the whole time.

I tried to remove and reset the new bulb a few times and it didn't work.

Has anyone had this issue?

Thanks!

There have been other threads recently about bulb issues with the 8700+. There may be quality control issues, according to one user's contact with BenQ customer service. You refer to having an 8700 so your pj may be older and due for a cleaning of the fan/filter in the bulb assembly chamber. Use a vacuum with small attachment.

I'm sure diagrams can be found in the pj manual. Anyway, to access the bulb chamber you need to: 1) slide the front center plastic piece up and off the projector; 2) unscrew three screws to take off a protective/circuit-completing mental plate; 3) remove three more screws on the bulb assembly itself; 4) pull the bulb assembly out using the small handle on it. The filter/fan is in the bottom of the chamber.

Cleaning the fan cured my overheating-caused lamp failure problem on my 8700.
