Hi all,

After googling my head off for days trying to get 1280x720 mode to work with the Benq PE8700 over DVI-D from my PC running an nvidia 5200 card I finally got it working. Various archived posts from these forums indicated limited success with this setup so I thought I'd post my findings.

My setup is an Athlon 64 with Nvidia FX5200 card running Ubuntu linux and the latest NVIDIA drivers for linux-x86-64

The latest drivers seem to be the key because a new option was available "ExactModeTimingsDVI"

Quote:
Option "ExactModeTimingsDVI" "boolean"

Forces the initialization of the X server with the exact timings

specified in the ModeLine. Default: For DVI devices, the X server

inilializes with the closest mode in the EDID list.
Setting this option to "true" in the Screen section of xorg.conf and using the following modeline produced a crisp clear X display and a nice to see indicator

"DVI-D (1280x720x60-D) Aspect-Anamorphic" on the screen. Without this option the screen just displays the "Searching DVI-I" indicator

Modeline "1280x720" 74.160 1280 1352 1392 1648 720 725 730 750 -hsync -vsync

I haven't done anything interesting yet like playing a DVD or checking to see if the image is pixel perfect but I'll see how I go and report back if anyone is interested.

Cheers,

Grant
