Hey man, i just updated mine to 1.05 (Latest Version)... you can pay and send in your benq to get updated... but they charge you... I did it myself its actually really safe. Here are the steps and yes its a big update gives lots of 3D Options and faster loading times!

I have added a link to a Rar i have made to keep these files all together and alive. Just download and extract, this has every file you need for the 1080st.

http://www.mediafire.com/download/91abn3isive7i3d/W1080_projector_setup.rar

After you have those files do these steps

You will need a Mini USB Cable to go from your BenQ w1080 and the other end to your PC. the cable looks like this

Make sure you have that cable or you can not go any farther.

STEPS:
1. Write down all your settings before starting an update. (If you do not you will loose all your settings they will be back to default)

2. Create a new folder on your desktop called 1080 firmware (So you know what and where the folder is)

3. Download the files i mentioned Above (W1080ST V105.rar, and FlashDeviceParameters.txt, and Download_Tool.rar)

4. Place the all the Files from step 3 into your 1080 firmware Folder that you made, Extract the w1080st.rar and the download tool files.

5. After the files are extracted, go into the new DDP442x Folder that is there. Install DLP Composer onto your pc.

6. Copy and Paste your Flash Device Parameters. txt file to the DLP composer program folder (It is under programs x86 DLP Composer on your C drive.)

7. Open the DLP Composer tool and go to edit, preferences, when the window opens go to communication and set it to USB and hit Ok.

8.Now on your left select Flash Loader, Select it, a box will open just hit ok.

9. In the new box, SELECT COMPLETE IMAGE DOWNLOAD, SKIP BOOT LOADER AREA MUST ALSO BE CHECKED, Also BESIDE SKIP BOOT LOADER AREA YOU MUST HAVE 32KB Selected!!!!!!!

10. After that, where it says Flash Image File, click Browse. Go to your w1080 firmware folder you made and select your W1080st Disc Image File (This is a file that you would have extracted previously in step 4.)

11. Turn Your BENQ W1080 Projector on, let it boot up. Insert the USB cable in your pc and the min plug into the projector. (Wait for the drivers to load. This should take a minute with windows 7 or 8, it should install drivers)

12. After the drivers install, Turn Your BENQ W1080 Completely Off (let it cool then unplug from wall)

13. After it is off, Turn it back on while it is Still connected to your PC but this time while turning it on, Keep the power and auto buttons pushed down while you plug it in. (YES HOLD DOWN THE AUTO AND POWER BUTTON WHILE PLUGGING IT INTO THE WALL)

14. Your projector should have a Red Light (where it usually is orange) this means it is in download mode (ALMOST DONE!) (If the light is still orange unplug projector and hold the keys again while turning it on until they are RED) Very Important!

15. Go back to your DLP COMPOSER SCREEN and Hit the Reset Bus and Start Download. The upgrade process should take about 5 minutes. A timer will start telling you how long it will take. (Do not unplug anything during the process. When everything completes the LED on the projector will turn to standby orange.) When it is back to orange you are all done, you may unplug your usb cable and power on your projector. Enjoy 1.05

MAKE SURE STEP 9 And 14 Are setup right or you could break your projector. Just follow steps and you will be fine!

Hi Yabizar,

great.. thanks for the new firmware.

2 little questions i have...

1) do you have a changelog to see what is new ?

2) Do I need to flash from 1.03 to 1.04 first or can i go from 1.03 to 1.05 without 1.04 ?

Thanks for answers...

Question 1:problem-1- To improve the flickering when smart ECO mode + dynamic setting

Problem-2- To add “Background” color in OSD

Problem-3 When at low temperature environment, fan oil would become thickened, cause rotational speed of

fan can’t reach target then shut down.

Problem-4- Keystone bug: When playing 3D (Frame packing), and then switch to 2D, and keystone value

can’t be kept.

Problem-5- ISF setting cannot be saved

Problem-6- compatibility problem for some unique 3D DVD players(Philips)

Problem-7- OSD Swedish language of ”on& off” wrong translation

Fixes:

-1- Hg bridge problem symptom: can’t turn on a projector, but NDF after transportation; few cases found in BQC.

There is Hg (Mercury) in a lamp bulb. Whenever the liquid mercury make the Short-circuit of electrodes of the lamp, the unit can’t

be turn on. To change the cooling status and lamp ignition behavior can make mercury condense at different locations of a bulb.

Due to Hg (Mercury) changing the location in lamp bulbs during transportation, it will be NDF in ASP.

-2- To improve power-on while system initializing

-3- To improve Philips DVD compatibility issue(BQC)

-4- Add 3D format as appendix

-5- Adjust Audio Curve for BQjp

-6- Japanese OSD correction for Cool and Warm (BQjp)

-7-To enhance HDMI searching speed

-8- To update RC code for new remote RCV011

-9- To modify the gain value to improve HDMI signal searching ability

-10- To add model name W1250 in Factory OSD (only W1070)

Added support for 3D formats:

[email protected]/94/60 Hz -- SBS added

[email protected] - SBS added

[email protected]/24Hz - SBS added

[email protected]/60Hz - Top Bottom - added

[email protected] - Top Bottom - added

ISF Night setting can’t be keep after 2D->3D timing changed

To keep lamp hour after “reset all setting in USE OSD”

To improve the 32 gray level via PS3 HDMI

Modify picture mode of “power off” icon

Modify HSG setting in No signal condition

Those are just the fixes in 1.3-1.4, version 1.5 i could not find patch notes on....

2nd Question- YES i went from 1.02 to 1.05

I also would like to note, during this process my 1st time, When i got to step 15 and I hit the Reset bus and clicked Start download i receieved an error.  This terrified me at first hahaha... then i had alot of googling to find out what went wrong (no my projector was fine!) It was a problem with my desktop not installing the drivers right for my projector (this made my pc not communicate with the projector to start the download mode).

If you guys have the same problem, most likely you wont, but if you hit start download and you get some weird error message its probably the same thing.  How i fixed this was I used my laptop instead and everything went 100% fine with the same exact steps.  Some people have had issues with their PC's installing the drivers right.  Just a case to case thing, everyone's pc is differnt.  Im not sure why my pc didnt communicate with my projector, I have a very very nice pc.

Anyway just wanted to post this in here incase this happens to anyone else and they still want to upgrade and are not sure what to do.

I also went from 1.02 to 1.05. Everything went smoothly. As long as you aren't in a hurry and look over things twice before you start the download - you can't go wrong. I figured I would be the LAST person to attempt this but I finally did. Your directions here were simple and the easiest to follow. Nearly foolproof.

Was a bit skeptical as this is my first projector and didn't want to end up ruining it, however the steps provided by Yabizar could not been more simple.

If you read it word by word and do as it says word by word you cannot go wrong.

Wont really know the full extend of changes until i try it later however the thing  that I have noticed initially, going from version 1.02 to 1.05, is that it boots up and shuts down alot quicker.

Anyone know how we can do the ISF calibrations ourself without having to pay someone?

Having done the upgrade I have noticed another thing with the new firmware. The focus over the whole screen is a lot more sharper. I used to find if I focused on the center the corners would be out of focus slightly. Don't know how but it seems to be sharper not only in the center but in the corners.

Yes and I agree with others who have said that Cinema mode is now darn near perfect AS IS, no need for calibration (just don't use brilliant color here or you'll see colors/contrast shift to less than ideal)

Having the upgrade for a few weeks now and watching various material the other thing I have noticed is the 3D is better. Bearing in mind the only 3D option I have is sky 3D. Initially when I tried the 3D It wasn't impressive but I put that down to the glasses as I didn't want to pay the high £80 benq want for their official glasses and bought a cheap £20 pair of universal glasses off Amazon. I'm not a huge fan of 3D so it's not something I watch all the time as it gives me a headache but I am sure the picture is sharper, less ghosting and handles motion better in 3D then previously.
