On 9 April. Interestingly, the report states that Warners will not be releasing a HD DVD version and that they are now Blu-Ray exclusive (at least in that territory).

Too bad this movie is a parody. Because it looks fantastic in HD.

It was awesome in 3D, not sure if it will retain the same value in normal 2D after watching it on a Digital 3D projector.

I saw it in 3D at the local IMAX. Problem was I was too busy looking at all the eye candy and can't really tell you anything about the film!
Is this region free or locked?

its warner so its region free so you can import it from Austraila but UK is getting the same release but in march so you can get it from their earlier.
Studios may enforce region code only if the movie hasn't be theatrically released in other regions.

With a top notch encode and a properly calibrated screen you get a natural 3D effect that's not a gimmick. I preffer that personally.

Even with the full digital 3D Beowulf is really dull.
Lol. No. The reason I Am Legend is coming out first on Blu-ray is because that is the agreement Warner made with Sony, in regard to Blu-ray exclusivity.

You state this as a mandatory requirement. Which it isn't. They can choose to not region code for catalog releases.

I think they are free to use region coding anyway they like.

I fear that the practise will be to use region coding for parity with the SD DVD release. Fox and Disney for sure, Sony is region coded for new releases and free for catalogs and WB remains to be seen how it will end up in practise after may.
I obviously will be picking up this one on HD-DVD but i am wonderig if Warner will region lock the Australian version.Seems likely but you never know which version might turn out to be better.I just got the Saw 3 European import on HD-DVD and actually prefer it to Lion's Gate's US BRD edition.Just an example of how sometimes imports on the "other"(goes for both formats) format can be of better quality sometimes.

I did and the six story screen made this film really come to life. I recommend it.
Amazon UK is showing Beowulf as region 2 and not the director's cut.

Can anyone confirm this?

Well, I've just received Michael Clayton and The Brave One on BD and neither have region coding. The HD DVDs for these titles have also been delayed by 3 weeks. Do you want to re-think your answer?

it was stated several times around here, you can't take AMAZON info about region coding, many times they are just lazy and using DVD region coding info...

On other forum they mentioned that there will be TWO releases, theatrical version and director's cut version...
