Berkline 090s - A side clearance question

510 Views 7 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  bentson
Hey guys,

I'm looking at either the Berkline 090s or 088s in a

4 seat side-by-side configuration - 14 feet back from a 106' screen...

I'm undecided as to whether I want straight edge or wedges...

The room is 16 feet wide.

How many feet do you usually allow for clearance on the sides of the seating between the edge of the seat and the side wall? Viewers will have to wall around the back of the couch since my entrance is in the rear, and i'll already have surrounds mounted at about 6' high on the side wall that come out a foot and a half....

You think 090's are going to be too big to use 4 seats? Should I look at the 88s instead....Part of me thinks the 090s are a better chair as far as comfort (i've only seen the 090s)...

Hi

090 Straight arm Right facing and Left facing recliner is 40" ( single recliner)

Straight arm Right facing is 32.5"

Left Facing wedge arm Right facing straight arm is 44.5"

Left facing straight arm is 32.5"

090 Right facing wedge arm Left facing/straight arm has a width of

44.5"

090 Armless is 25"

090 Right Facing Wedge Arm is 37"

Hope these combos help you I don't know if I read your post correctly but 4 each single recliners with straight arms placed side by side would be

40"x4= 160" or 13' 3.5" wedges can be made smaller or bigger depending on configuration you may want to add a love seat (090-87/87A)in the middle of 2 wedge arms to make the combo smaller or ? I would suggest the 090 chair over the 088 if you have the room for the 090 the 088 are a wee bit cramped

Cheers

Well I figured it out-

090's with the configuration I want is 148" wide.

The room is 192" wide.

That leaves about 3 2/3 feet for each side of the couch until the wall.

assuming its oh so slightly offcenter- that leaves 2 feet for people to walk by...

hope that's enough-cause I really like the 90's over the 88s for their bigger arm rests ;)

does anyone know the difference between 090's and 099's?

Thanks
I have the 090's in a [chair-wedge-loveseat-wedge-chair] configuration. Almost exact same dimensions: my room is 16 ft wide, 107" screen, ~14' back. I offset the screen with the room so I could keep the center of the loveseat at screed center. The far chair is about 15" off the wall-enough for cleaning but too tight to really walk through for adults. The near chair is about 3 1/2' off the wall. No complaints. The carpet was completed today so I hope to get the chairs back in tonite. Let me know if a pic would help...

The 090 are shorter than the 099s. Not sure about width, but I think they are wider as well. I can't seem to find the spec sheet.

My concern with the 099 would be the back being so high that it blocks a direct line to your surrounds & rears. You sink in pretty well with the 090s & @ 5'9" I wish the back was just a little lower.

(it sucks to be vertically challenged) ;)
Thanks Bentson, that's what I was needing to know...

If ya have a pic, yeah throw it up -i'm interested...

Do you notice any difference in sound offsetting the seating in the room?

I'm afraid the sound from the FL will be different from the FR, but I assume since we are talking only a foot or so its not that bad....

Edit: one more question - since you have similar seating distance- do you think the screen size you use is perfect for that distance? I am deciding b/w 106" diag and 119"

For your screen size, do you mean 106" wide or diagonal?

My screen is 107" wide 16:9.

The answer depends on your projector. I am using a 9" CRT & I wouldn't go any larger. The 107" wide screen really fills the room & gives a true, engrossing cinema experience. :D

If your PJ has tons of light output you could potentially go larger, but at 107" wide, the height is roughly 60"- leaving room either on top or bottom for speakers & a little for aesthetics might be tight to go much larger unless you have an impressive ceiling height.

Will try to post a few pics.
