I'd like to include these for amps that cost more than $2000:

EAD 7300

Lexicon LX-7

Gemstone 7 channels

Plinius (7 channel)

McIntosh amp (maybe only 6 or 8 channels )

Jeff Rowland amp (don't know if there is a 7 channels, but you can look)

Balance Audio Design (BAT) (probably only 6 channel)

Krell TAS (only 5 channels)

Or get two Pass Labs X3 for 6 channels

Thease are world class amps so quality will be worth the cost if you like to spend for the best.

Gemstone is like a newborn company compared to any other brands above. But people who tested it said it can compete with amps that costs twice as much.

If you look at this thread, there is a picture showing the comparision of the amps they tested, including the Gemstone.

All of the amps above have different sizes. If you like it compact, the Lexicon LX-7 is the answer. I think the LX-7 might not sound the best but it is just a bit behind the $10000 Plinius 7 channel. If you have room and the green to spend, the Plinius is one of the very best amps out there. Othewise look for Jeff Rowland multichannel amp.

I currently have a Cinepro 3k6II amp. 6 channels of 375 watt at 8 ohms each, and about 600 wpc at 4 ohms. I can say that this amp has all the CLEAN power to drive anything and deliver excellent highs and lows, the mids are strong, crystal clear. The sound signature of this amp is neither on the warm or cold side. It has an analytical sound that can reveal anything in a vey natural and powerful way.

This model is discontinued but it can be seviced by verastarr.

The newer and much better one is at http://www2.cinepro.com:5000/4k6-4SEGold.htm

Another version of newer model by Verastarr is at http://www.verastarr.com/ssa64.html

I recommend the 4k6SE. Can't go wrong with 84 Top of the line Motorola 250 watt hi- speed Bipolar Output devices. Only it's a 6 channel and not 7.

Also. you want to make sure your amp is balanced with XLR inputs. This feature is important and can keep the amp with higher resale value.

I have used Proceed, B&K, Adcom and Sherbourn, but I now have a Gemstone and it is the best I have had. Excellent low-level listening for music and all the punch you need for dynamic movies.

BTW, the Jeff Rowland amp is only 6 channel: http://www.jeffrowland.com/Model%20M...Amp%20Page.htm

All three of these amps have rather different signatures..

The Sim Audio Titan has a TON of bottom end and is F-A-S-T! As odd as it might seem, I actually named the Titan and this is a long and funny story. Read the Chris Lewis review and it alludes a little on how it happened.. ;) The Titan is one of the best amps ever made and I have sold dozens. It works well with about everything but thinner speakers and those that are bright.

The BAT is dynamic and warmer. A better synergy on brighter and thinner speakers and is a great sounding amp. No corners were cut on this amp. The Jeff Roland is my favorite looking amp. VERY warm and VERY smooth but those two words mean covering up information to my ears but YMMV.:)

There is another approach buy Yamaha RX-V2500 7x130 W and with the big money saving get two 12" powered subs .

What about a 5+2 combo instead of one 7? Since you already have the nice Parasound 2205, what about adding the Parasound 3500 350x2? The 3500 was the predessor to the Halo JC1 monoblocks, and goes for only ~ 1k used.

Another excellent 5+2 combo would be the Aragon 8008x5 (110lbs) and a 2 channel Aragon from the same series (8008bb, 8008st, 8002).

I own both the Sim Titan-7 ( for mains & centre ) and a Parasound HCA-2205AT ( for sourrounds and passive sub ). I think the Parasound is a very nice amp at its price ( sonics & power & build ) , and it is tough to justify spending more, but that is the curse of this silly hobby !

Keep in mind that a Titan-7 is another 8" longer ( and another row of heat sinks ) then the Titan-5 photo at the Sim website. A Titan-7 will become a conversation piece when you have guest over as they will say "holy- ****, what is that !". It has visual stature and high "artistic" appeal -> not something you want to hide in a closet. And did I mention it sounds mighty good ?

SteveH: You carry a lot of Canadian products !

Andy, have you owned or listened to the Lexicon LX-7? How is the sound compared to Titan, Parasound or EAD?

Thanks,
