Best 37-40 Lcd for standard dvds.

I been looking at getting an Sony 34" 955 (super fine pitch tube) or the XBR970. Both of these sets make standard dvds look amazing. The one reason why I haven't made the jump to LCD because of the horrible picture quality of standard dvds. Are there any LCDs out there that make standard dvds look as good as the Xbr970s???

Should I wait for the 120 refresh rate lcds coming out soon. I heard this helps out with fast action scenes. For example, "i,Robot" looks HORRIBLE on a new model Samsung. Especially the tunnel scene. Everything gets very very pixalated and blocky.

Are Lcds still way off from the picture quality of a tube? What do you guys think?

Thanks guys!

I don't think DVDs look *horrible* on LCDs, but they will probably look better on the sony CRT sets that you mentioned. Have you considered plasma?

What type of DVD player do you have? I know on my DVD recorder certain dvd's looked bad in action scenes, but my RP-62 with DCDI looked fine on my Hitachi.

I have a 32" LCD in my BR and have not noticed bad pixelation on action scenes with DVD...however, on D* I notice it because of massive compression artifacts.

The feed and source really have alot to do with it.

I'm new to the LCD world...even though the LCD fully utilizes almost every pixel, I still prefer the RP CRT (My 52" Hitachi) with action scenes...I like the LCD for "static" scenes though. The detail really is stunning.

The LCD's today are getting really close to good PQ. If your not in a rush I know that Sony should be releasing their LED sets with insane contrast ratios. How long until the release? I don't know...but may be worth waiting for? Then I'm sure something else will be around the corner that's better.....

Well I heard the Olevias do a good job on showing standard video. Is that the same as dvds? Or should I just stick with the 34 inch sony crt until LCDS get better?
I'm shopping with very similar concerns.

About Olevia, I'm not sure that people see their lower-end (3xx or 5xx) excelling in the way that the upcoming 7xx do, and the 7xx in 42" is not yet out, won't be made in smaller sizes, and will cost a pretty penny.

If I had room for a 34" Sony XBR CRT, my search would be over: it does very well, and it's screen size suits me perfectly. But I just can't put it into my family room without some unwelcome space/arranging problems. And then the whole idea of a TV that I cannot move by myself....

Yes they do a great job. They now have a 32 inch that displays 3D using Xpol 3D optical material that enables both normal 2D and stereoscopic 3D content to be displayed on the screen. I'm not sure when it will be released, but Olevia certainly is going to be a leader in the technology
