Best 6 1/2 inch in ceiling speakers for under $300 a pair.

I'm getting ready to buy in ceiling speakers to use for distributed audio and rear/middle speakers in a 7.1 System. I'm looking for a rich full sound and good bass. They will be for movies and Music. My budget is around $300 a pair but willing to go over a little if it will make a big difference.

Thanks in advance for responses.

Take a look at Speakercraft. I have a full 7.1 in-ceiling system. Take a look at my Webshots pics.

NHT's iC2 are very nice. I can't say whether they are "the best" or not, but they certainly good.

PS - why inceilings? You don't get real surround from inceilings.

That is a bogus statement. I have a full 7.1 system, and the soundstage, and surround effects are all excellent.
I'm afraid we have extremely different definitions of "excellent". Some people think a Kia is an excellent sports car, I imagine.

I'm not talking about Kia's. I'm talking about your statement that you can't get good surround effects from inceiling speakers. Do you have an in-ceiling system? Have you ever auditioned a quality in-ceiling system? (I'm sure you have) A system with the right speakers in the right locations.

Not for HT. I have an on-wall system (until I build a house) and it's far from ideal or high performance compared to what is possible, but it's way above an in-wall system and much further above the performance of inceilings.

Yes. But "quality" used with the term "in-ceiling" is extremely relative.

Lots of them, but "right location" and "in-ceiling" are completely incompatible terms.

Thanks for the responses.

I bought a BIC 5.1 system with with in-walls in the front for the Left and Right HT-8W, HT-100 sub and HT-65 Center. It came with 8" HT-8C's for the back. But I think they are going to be too big for where they will need to go. I'll put them in my workshop or something. So I need something for my middle two and rear two to finish off the 7.1. I might be able to pull off some very small bookshelf speakers mounted in the rear corners of my room if they are small enough. Any suggestions there are greatly appreciated too.

In-wall/in-ceiling because of a mandate from my wife.

I'm going to need 4 pairs of in-ceiling for the distributed Audio.

Thanks again.

What about in-wall then? Not ideal, but certainly more enveloping and you can get the placement right. Wives often "mandate" things they know little about because they assume that the solutions are essentially equal. But often when a guy like me explains to them exactly how it *needs* to be in order to get your *money's worth*, they relent and enjoy it later. I specialize in this. If you want me to write you a hall pass, let me know. I'll explain the whole basis as to why inceilings aren't appropriate.

Your comments are absolutely nonsense. In-ceilings, and in-walls are two different animals.

That's my point.

regular speakers > onwalls > inwalls > inceilings

when it comes to HT. Inceilings have their place, just not anywhere near an HT system. Great for kitches, porches, dining rooms though.
Well if your ever in Florida, please look me up, so I can make you think about your statement.
Why? So I can add an "LOL" to the end of it?

I'm sorry you have a compromised HT system. But why convince others to have compromised systems? So you can feel better about yours? My system is well above yours in quality and placement but it still is lacking in imaging/staging because of inherent limitations. But at least the speakers are in right place (except for being too close to the walls) compared to many of the ones I set up.

"Above mine in quality" Please Don't embarrass yourself.

Your so proud of your system, you don't even show what you have. Scared of being laughed at?

And I'm not trying to convince anyone to compromise their system. He asked a question and I gave a positive responce to his question. Your statement was very negative to his question. (You don't get real surround from inceilings). All I stated was that your statement was bogus. And it still is a bogus statement from someone that has no experience with quality in-ceiling speakers.

And I never stated that in-ceiling where better or superior to traditional quality bookshelf or floorstanding speakers.

Easy now. When people take "cheap shots" at the gear another ones, people are going to seem reluctant to post what they have.

Judging from the other renovations that mazersteven has applied to his home, I'm kind of surprised that he had enough $$ left over to fund some theater gear. Nice home, mazersteven. Excellent use top-notch building materials. :)
