I'm looking for a pair of speakers, for audio only, ideally bookshelf type.

That will be connected to zone 2 of a receiver (95w/channel).

It is for a 2 story living room (10w X 15 L x 15 H), and the speakers are going to be at mid height, on the border of the mezzanine, pretty close from one another.

What kind of speakers would allow a good sound throughout the area?

at the level of the mezzanine (8Ft high), there is a small step (maybe 10 inches deep), so that also limits the size of the speakers, no more than 8-10 inches deep!

problem is, the setup you're planning will compromise the sound of even good speakers. in addition to the bad location, you'll be trying to fill a large space with tiny speakers. add to that the fact that most speakers that will fit that space will be rear ported, so cramming them in there will mush up what bass they do have.


having said that, i might recommend the smallest speakers that Ascend makes, since they're sealed (i think). but you won't get much sound below 60Hz, and it's going to sound distant and hollow in that setup.
