Best AV Reciever for under 700$ Maybe the Denon 3805?

I have been looking at Denon 3805 which does not have THX, the ONKYO TX-NR801, other THX Onkyos and several Kenwood that have THX in that price range.

A certain vendor has the 3805 reconditioned, just under 700$ with an availaible 1 year warranty for 32 bucks.

The Onkyo and the Kenwood are available many places for that price.

I currently have a Denon 3802, which I absolutely love the warmth of sound, drive 2 Eosone 1000 towers. I do not use all the other channels/speakers right now just 2. I read somewhere when I bought it , the 3802 inside was a copy of a rack mount version they sold for 3k, true or not I don't know.

Some questions:

1) What would I be getting my current setup over my 3802. I can make use of 2 component switching of the 3 the 3805 offers.

MY HDTV tuner goes in the VGA jack on my plasma and my first dvd player goes in the DVI jack on the plasma. But I have a dvd recorder and another dvd player so I could, though not necessary for daily use make use of those other component switches..

2) Is this a good price for the 3805? I read it has better dacs.

3) Would you wait? Is it a good enough investment for the money to justify spending it over my 3802?

I also read the dacs and other specs would be a substantial increase audio quality wise over my 3802 in the reviews possibly?

I do have the other speakers for a 5.1 to 7.1 setup but not in use currently. I found for all the wiring I did not get that much more.

ok 68 views and not a single reply, come on everyone, if are reading the title to the thread and then opening it to read the content, some of you must have opinons...
ZZTop,

I don't have specific experience with the 3805, but....

You might want to read the digital amplifier threads. A number of members on this forum are replacing their $2000-$3000 receivers with digital receivers/amps like the Kenwood VRS-7100 ($275-$400) and Panasonic SA-XR50 ($200-$300). Evidently this new technology outperforms most (all?) analog-based receivers costing under $1500. Look at the reviews from Alan Gouger and others.
I used to be a big fan of Denons, but after my latest upgrade and a slew of auditions I went with the new Yamaha Rx-V1500, good sound, improved YPAO, THX, video up conversion, more power, more connections and many settings than the previous model. It was the best bang for my buck in A/V (under $600 shipped) IMO. Good Luck!
Ok, so then I should check out these digital recievers with this new digital technology, perhaps mostly an all digital pathway or portions of it inside the amp/reciever it sounds like. Hmm.

Ok, besides my original questions anyone else have model recommendations on these new digital technology units?

Yubakram: Did you find the panny suffered from the too thing or too birght complaint I hear constantly about Yamaha recievers for years? I never new if it was an aesthetic or real quality difference.

That looks like a good price on the 1500. Was that from an authorized dealer (w/ US Waranty)?
Here is the units that we had on our list to check out:

Denon AVR-2805

Denon AVR-3805

Harmon Kardon AVR 430

Harmon Kardon AVR 630

Kenwood VR-5080

Yamaha RX-V2400

Yamaha RX-V1500

When we decided to upgrade our A/V equipment (50% music and 50% home theater)- Denon AVR-2700 –we spent several months visiting and probably irritating many stores concerning A/B testing of various units side by side playing different movies and music. The ones that we put high on our list was the Yamaha 2400 and Denon 3805. When the new Yamaha 1500 came out we listened to that with a A/B to the Denon 3805. The sales person did the setup and switching so we had no idea which one was playing. After 20 minutes and various types of media playing from both receivers we chose the new Yamaha 1500 seven out of the 10 tests that was played for us. The sales person stated that the new Yamaha is a good bargain and he still preferred the higher priced Denon. But the end all is we like the sound from the Yamaha better.

Now we are not audiophiles compared to many others here on this forum, but we based our decision on what we liked and not what others told us. There are many people on this forum that do not like Yamaha, and we went into this not caring for any brand. “Too Bright – The 1500 sounds real good, that’s all we know along with a slew of features. You’re going to have to make a list and do your own unbiased testing for yourself.
