When I have friends and neighbors over to my house, I want to put in a blu-ray movie and pick out one scene and play it real loud so that they are extremely impressed with my system and they will rave how jealous they are of me. In the old days (with just a dvd player and a lower quality receiver) I would stick in Starship Troopers and play the "Someone made a big mistake" scene - which is the planet invasion. I would play it so loud it would almost make the windows melt. My neighbors and friends were extremely jealous - just the way I loved it.

So now that I have a PS3 blu-ray player and a new receiver, I need a great blu-ray movie scene that can kick sound-butt!

So what can you recommend to me?

You understand that I am not looking for great audio quality, don't you? I am looking for dazzling sound. For instance, Ratatouille, because it has uncompressed audio, might have excellent audio integrity, but there is no scene in the movie that I can play that will sound-wise blow people away.

The only one movie scene I have played so far that sounds promising is any of the 3 depth charge scenes in U-571.

Bass alone does not make great impressive sound, but it sure doesn't hurt either.

So, please help me out.

When the ship takes off for Earth in WALL-E, there's a good second of continuous bass. With my SVS PB13-Ultra, I can literally feel the wind blowing on me... despite the fact it's sailing the vacuum of space.

Good use of bass and surround in Hellboy II too.

P.S. Wrong forum?

I say Master and Commander in the first sea battle screen.

XBR11, repost your question in the Blu-ray software forum and you get a lot more answers.

I'll raise you with the first time the T-rex is seen in Jurassic Park. OR when the helicopter transformer lands at the base and shoots everything

You should rephrase your post to say kick bass butt, not audio. There are many audiophiles on this forum that might misinterpret what you wrote if they don't read your qualifier at the end of your post about not wanting sound quality. Many people on this forum would much rather have SQ than SPL so it can be very subjective. Also, it would probably be better to put this thread in the bass forums and you might also want to check their sticky on the master list of BASS movies.

As for impressing people, get an infinite baffle setup with 8 drivers which should give you around 125dB at 15Hz. The only downside would be that your house might just very well get blown apart.

All in for bass...Cloverfield. If you have a good subwoofer that will literally shake the room the scene that starts with the characters sitting on the fire escape talking at the first of the movie scared my wife when we first watched it. You're not expecting the room to start moving. Keep that going until the dust clears when they are outside.
