As part of a pilot program rolling out to (about) 60 Best Buy stores, consumers seeking blanket service and support for their tech, whether purchased at Best Buy or not, can get it by signing up for Best Buy Beta. This paid membership pilot program has an annual cost of $199.99, or $179.99 for holders of Best Buy credit cards.

For the money, members get concierge tech support service that is available 24/7 via phone chat, email, and the Best Buy app.

“As we look to evolve our membership programs, the goal of Best Buy Beta is to create a membership experience that customers will love and to leave them feeling confident throughout their relationship with Best Buy,” said Allison Peterson, Best Buy’s chief customer officer. “This pilot offers premium service, complete with support aimed at anticipating our customers’ needs.”

Additional benefits include member pricing, unlimited geek squad tech support, two years of geek squad protection on many purchases, free standard shipping, and free installation for the majority of products and appliances. The idea is that for some customers, paying the annual fee could cost less than the aggregate cost of these services purchased à la carte. This pilot program is regional, the stores are located in Iowa, Oklahoma, and eastern Pennsylvania is expected to expand to Minnesota, North Carolina and Tennessee at which point the program will achieve the 60 store (approximate) total during this month of April.
