Hi!

I wonder if it still KBK's modify'd capture card is the best for

connection my Pioneer HLD-X9 laserdisc player with s-video?

Or are there ANY other good capture card?

Or are there any s-video-SDI converters so I can use SDI in instead,

and will this be better?

Thanks in advance for all your help from a HTPC newie, maybe :D

The new Conexant CX23881 based capture cards will be available soon. There should be a quality improvement due to the 10-bit A/D converters. I don't know about dScaler support yet, although I've heard the design is similar to the bt8x8 series, so I'm sure it won't take long.

SDI can be better than a capture card since the A/D conversion is done outside of the potentially noisy PC environment, but I think the price of SDI equipment is much higher than the Conexant based solutions. For an s-video source I'd just use the KBK card or wait for the CX23881.

See http://www.sdisilk.com for more info on SDI. The images captured by dScaler via SDI are stunning.

You could also consider one of the external analog-to-DV IEEE1394 boxes.
