My current 2-1/2 year old Sony DVD player is now displaying the dreaded "C 13:00" error on ALL dual-layer DVDs. I've already tried cleaning the lens and calibrating the drive in service mode, etc., but it appears the player has had it.

What is the "best" DVD player for use with an older (but still great) Mits 50" projection TV (S-Video input only)? Best Buy right down the street and could spend up to ~$200 on this.

I've been perusing this site and it looks like my best bets may be the JVC XVN50BK and the Pioneer DV-563AS. Is there a consensus as to which one is "better" with S-Video? I'd like the SACD and DVD-Audio compatability of the Pioneer, but not sure if it's worth approximately $60 extra.

What are your thoughts? And thanks in advance for your advice.

IMHO, the Panasonic RP-91 is an excellent choice because of all the image controls it provides in the 480i mode.

You might be able to find a unsed unit in the $200 range.

You've got a lot of choices if you are just using it in interlaced mode with s-video. The differences show up in progressive mode.
