Dear all,

I'm moving into a new, small, apartment, and am looking to buy floorstanding speakers that can fill a room that is approximately 14 feet deep by 12 feet wide.

The problem is that I can't have any subwoofer, center, or satellite speakers, so I need a pair of floorstanding speakers that can sel sufficiently do a good job in a home theatre setting (mostly for watching movies).

Looking to spend no more than $2,000 for a pair. Was looking at a pair of Paradigm Studio 60s - they look good (very important for my girlfriend) and have received great reviews.

What would you suggest?

Many thanks for your help,

AP

Love them!! My buddy has them as well as. A full paradigm 7 channel setup with a servo 15. Those speakers are very nice. ( talking about the 60's ) very full clean sound with a very good midbass and they actually go pretty low for ( I believe there 6.5 speakers )

As is paradigm with all there speakers.

These are a bit obscure, but since I've owned them I'd say a pair of EFE Technology model T-36 floorstanders from Ed Frias do exceedingly well in a home theater setting, and my listening area is not much larger than yours. And you'd have some spare cash left over to boot.

I know you specified floorstanding speakers, but there are quite a few bookshelves that can reach as deep as the Studio 60's. One that I would recommend looking at is the Guru QM10. It is made for near wall placement so would work perfectly for a small apartment (seeing as most speakers would need to be pulled out into the room several feet). If you look at the used market you could get a pair of Usher Tiny Dancers as well, which also extend lower than the Studio 60's.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is that don't think that just because you will be running without a sub doesn't preclude bookshelf speakers. There are a lot out there in your price range that can extend quite low.
