HI Guys,

I think its time to clean my cd players laser lens. I was wondering how to go about this. In the past I've used one if those cd's with the brushes on them but could never be sure if in fact it really cleaned the lens or not. What would be the best fluid to use if I decided to do it by hand , chances are that's the way I'll go. I just wanna make sure I dont cloud the lens or melt it. Thanks to all for the info!

I say if you're not having any problems, don't clean the lens... though if you're going to clean it, use those cleaning cd's unless you feel very comfortable doing it. Generally the lens is balanced precisely and too much pressure could mess up its distance and alignment. As for the fluid, the best generally is distilled or double distilled water. Its the least strongest cleaning solution that you can get and will leave no residue.
