I'm relatively new to OTA HDTV reception.

I installed an amplified antenna and have enjoyed several hi-def programs, but watching the signal strength indicator - I suspect I have ghosting occurring on some channels. It shows good strength, but drops to zero and then rises back to it's former level.

Which brand and model of antenna is best to reject ghosting ?

Or - what type of antenna design best defeats ghost signals ?

What is your location? City, State, & Zip Code? People can help you more if this information is available. I general, you want a directional antenna with high front-to-back ratio to reduce ghosting. Locating the antenna inside/in attic, can increase ghosting.

That right there could be part of your problem.

You don't want to amplify a signal if you don't have to.

Take the amplifier out of the path and you'll stop amplifying

those ghosts.

I'm in zip 20120 in Northern Virginia. I used antennaweb.org, but it can't predict exact placements, reflection and ghosting potential, etc. I feel that I need a physically larger antenna (greater surface area).

I have a mounting position outdoors about 26 feet above ground. I'm about 20 miles from the stations I want to receive. I'm receiving some solid HDTV signals already, so I don't think I need a "monster".

I bought a Channel Master 7777 amp, so I think I'll ditch the amplified antenna I have now, and buy an un-amplified, larger array and use the 7777 with that. I read here that it's one of the best units available (low noise). With this amp in mind, I think I'm looking at a moderately sized antenna.

Am I looking at refunds on my current antenna AND the 7777 ? I have a need to keep antenna size down and less "conspicuous", strictly for cosmetic reasons.

You have stations coming from every direction. If you want to receive them all, you will require a rotor. If you just want to concentrate on the Washington stations and keep it small, a CM 3021 would probably be OK. The CM 4228 is twice as large and more directional. The CM 4248 Yagi is also very good. The first two and the Yagi have very different appearences. You will have to decide which has the better look.

Thanks.

I ordered the 3021. I find it amusing (and frustrating) that I am reliving the early days of TV reception. :D

I may add a rotator at a later date.
