I was looking to buy a relatively cheap receiver. I have an HD tv and plan on using the HDMI hookup and have a ps3 as well. I've been looking at these three models and just need help picking.

Denon AVR-1609

Pioneer VSX-519V-K

HK AVR254

The Denon and HK are both 7.1, and seem like they would both be better receivers but they have significantly less wattage than the pioneer, I dont know if this is just a difference in how the company rates their products. I am looking for one that will produce a great deal of sound and dont want to be stuck with a wimpy receiver. Ive also heard of too many problems with the ps3 and HK so i'm sort of wary of that one.

i actually have the same question. i'm looking for a good, but ultra-inexpensive receiver that can still do HDMI. the cheapest i can find is the denon 589 (~$200). is there anything else around that price range that's a good value?

The Onkyo 507 is very good, probably one of the better choices for its price.
The HK 254 or 247 as good/better and cheaper! The 507 will cost you $249 refurbished and $299 new.

The HKs are 7.1 with more power and features. Both have the same amp section - the 254 may have a few better features - the 247 goes for less than $200 - the 254 around $240 on ebay from Harman Audio. Two year warranty seals the deal - or should!
