Best HTiB for Bedroom?

694 Views 4 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  itakecash
We recently bought a Panasonic 37PX60U Plasma HDTV for our master bedroom. It sits neatly in a corner entertainment armoire, and we are very happy with it. The picture quality is great, but we've noticed that the integrated speaker starts to distort/vibrate with lows beyond a certain volume, and we don't have a DVD player for it yet either.

So, we're looking for a home theater in a box solution to round out the system. Surround sound is not an important consideration, as I simply intend to put the sub-woofer on the floor, the center channel on the same shelf as the HDTV, and the left and right channels on top of the armoire -- I don't even intend to hook up any the rear channels. The HTiB should have an upconverting HDMI out, and ideally, an HDMI in as well.

I've noticed that the soon to be released Panasonic SC-RT50 has an HDMI out, integrated DVD recording functionality, and something called HDAVI. The DVD recording functionality will be useful, but this probably means that it will not have an HDMI in. I am also intrigued about HDAVI, because its not clear to me that it would be useful at all since I use the universal remote for the cable box exclusively. Can someone please provide clarification on this?

I've also noticed that the Samsung HT-TQ85 has both an HDMI in and an HDMI out, but no integrated DVD recorder or HDAVI (obviously).

Lastly, I've noticed that the Sony DAV-DX255 has auto-calibration of the speakers. This sounds like a useful feature considering that I don't intend to hook up the surround channels and where I intend to place the speakers, but I'm not sure if it will help at all.

What would you recommend?

Depends on how much money you got.

If DVI/HDMI is an requirement for you, skip the DAV-DX255. I own one, and despite the product pages on their website I read there is no DVI or HDMI.

It is a nice little player, but I'm actually replacing it already (and I got it a month ago) with a pieced together system.

For a bedroom though, I could see it working well ... and at around $250 it is FAR below your $1000 limit.

for a grand u could make a quick and rocken component setup. but if u must have a htib i think a good one would be any of the yamaha products. the samsungs have a pretty crappy sub so if ur looking for some solid bass reenforment in your movies dont think about samsung. also sony has some good component htibs with powered subs and decent little sats. listened to this HT-7000DH (499.00)and its great. hdmi also :)
