Hello all. My wife and I need help coming to a decision.

We're working on a new front end for our HTPC. We've come up with two very different looks. We need help deciding which one to go with. We've made a pact that the one that gets the most votes will become our HTPC front end!

Here are the two options:
Option 1

and
Option 2

What does everyone think? There's a lot riding on this! :D

My vote is for #2, by a long shot. There are far too many colors in #1 that are competing for attention (logos). Also, I think the text would look better without italics.

Having said that, I do think the background in #1 is quite nice and if you were to remove the colors from the logos, like you did in #2, it would be harder for me to decide which is better.

One last note (and this might sound silly) but, how is your home decorated.? If it's more modern, I think that #2 would be a better choice. Classic-- then #1 or something like it.

Just my 2 cents ... I hope it helps buy you a decision ;).

For the purposes of my HTPC, all I needed was a simple program launcher, so I am building my own in C#. I'm a programmer and my wife is a Graphic Designer, so it works out pretty well.

Thanks for everyone's votes.. Looks like my choice, #1 is going to be our new front end. :)

Option 1 no doubt. I don't know about you all but I see in color. Besides it looks cleaner in alignment of the icons and text as well.

The red curtains look good but I'd blend it a little better and change the font for CMC. I also wouldn't have it follow the bannister but simply put it in the lower left corner and even change the opacity to make it see through like a floating logo.

I'm a fan of number 1's background, but I don't like the font or the colours used on the images alongside. It's just too many different colours and stuff like the greens and the blues are at odds with the background. Maybe greying out the images witha touch of gold would bring them into line. A new non-italic font is definetly needed though.

Great suggestions... It's addressing a few of the things that we'd still like to tweak about it. One of the cool things about Option #1 is that it's a local theatre here in London, Ontario.. Adds a little bit extra to it.

Thanks again everyone!

I've been actually working on a version which is XML based.. So basically in an XML script you would build up all of your buttons, your actions, etc. I'll release it when it's done for sure.
