Best LOW volume amps/receivers for HT?

One of the criteria I am including in my search for powering a home theater set up is to be able to work well at lower volumes.


I have previously asked at the speaker forum and now I am wondering which amps or receivers are best suited for this task.


From what I understand, one wants high current. So an amp that uses class "a" at lower volumes and switches over to "b", might be what I'll be looking for. Does anyone know what models have this?


From a cheaper standpoint I would consider one of the newer HT receivers, like the Yamaha 1400, but don't know how it would fare in comparison.
