Best lower priced sub choices for enclosed cabinet?

274 Views 1 Reply 2 Participants Last post by  johnm_10
Newbie question...I am upgrading my home theater setup (new Yamaha RX-V2600, new Panny 50" 8UK plasma) and would like to add a sub...Never had one before (have Boston Acoustics old T1030 floor standing mains and center)...The sub (I know, I know I shouldn't put it there) will need to go in an enclosed cabinet---open out into the room but closed on all other sides (we have a built in entertainment center and wife will NOT allow it to go on floor)....Living room where it will reside is about 18' x 20'...Mostly listen to movies/tv..

Cabinet is only 18" deep which is the limiting dimension (width and height will not be an issue). Do I need to stick with either a front firing/front ported? Is it a really bad thing to have a front firing sub ported to the back in an enclosed space like this? What would be a good low budget (under $300, might even buy used on Ebay) choice for this arrangement?

You guys are the experts....Any advice you can offer would be greatly appreciated...Thanks.

So you got your entertainment center built into the wall? Can you also build or get built some kind of infinite baffle setup? That would be premo, basically it means building the speaker into the wall.

Do a search to find many examples :)
