I'm still trying to decide whether or not to UST. And it looks like most of the newest laser pj's under $3k seem to be UST. Where 120" max screen size is probably fine, I've gotten used to going much larger. And of course the "much larger" is the reason you go with a projector in the first place.

Still intrigued with the Optoma P1 and other upcoming UST's, but also very interested in comparable quality regular throw 4K laser projectors. What are the best options existing or upcoming?

I'm in the same situation as you. I'm looking for a projector for my home theater (pitch black). I currently use a LG OLED 65", but I want a bigger screen. I can't decide between a normal projector and an UST.

The Optoma P1 looks so promissing, and I can't wait for the reviews.

It's a tough call. If I had my way, for this budget I'd probably just get as good a laser projector as possible (non-UST). I'd rather not limit myself to screen size but it seems that the laser tech is being focused on UST's probably since the more focused beams lend themselves to that kind of precision and application.

But sadly at this point, for non UST laser in this price range the choices seem to be last years already somewhat obsolete technology, Chinese imports not made for our market, or quality units well out of the $3K category. I've been used to a high end LED projector for the last 6 years, and really just prefer that kind of picture (and convenience).

My compromise would probably be the P1 also since UST does have certain advantages. But you also have to figure the cost of a UST specialty screen. Ugh.

Just hoping for other POV's.
