For reasons beyond my control I've been given the choice of one of the following four DVD players to be purchased brand new.

Sony DVP-NS975V

SAMSUNG DVD-HD950

Panasonic DVD-S77S

Zenith DVB318

I've got a Samsung HLP5063W and could use DVI, HDMI or Component if necessary. But would rather use DVI or HDMI if it would have the best PQ. Main goal is to have a better PQ than DVD's through my XBOX! At least the best that one of these four could provide. In reading through the forum and reviews it doesn't seem like any of these are the best selection but what's the better of the 4 evils??? :D

Thanks in advance for your time, thoughts and suggestions.

Since your connecting via HMDI/DVI, knock the Zenith from your list.

The Sammy 950 isn't as capable as the S77 or 975, knock that.

The 77 has the better deinterlacer/scaler then the 975.

I would go with the Panasonic S77/S97 or the Oppo 971H; these are the current champions of the sub 300 upconverting market. Both players use the same Farjouda DCDi chipset.

The answer is simple: Panny S77 (it's not even a close contest).

Basically, the panasonic S77 is the only viable option out of those 4.

The Oppo 971H is also an excellent option for those looking for region free/pal capability.
