looking at the onkyo HTIB..which best for 90% of viewing will be through hd-dvr directv receiver...plan on getting blu ray player sometime this spring...which of the onkyo htib would be best for me? 3100,4100,5100,6100?...also if i got one of the 7.1 setups, i would reduce it to 5.1 due to my layout...would i see much difference in sound quality between the systems because most of the viewing would be hd-dvr directv? thanks

Soundwise, they're probably pretty close. The 6100 might be noticeably better than the 3100, but I wouldn't expect a gigantic difference. They're all running variations on Onkyo's general receiver design (with some more power as you go up) and low-end speakers (compared to the name brands.)

I'd look at the feature list first, like do you want HDMI audio, a/b zone capability, more inputs, things like that. The 6100 would certainly offer a much richer feature set over the lower ones, and so on down the line.

well i think i'm deciding between the 3100 and 5100. i use hdmi cable from my hd-dvr so im thinking do i just go ahead with the 5100 since it has hdmi inputs..i know this is audio forum but does anyone know if you lose any video quality in hd, if you go down from hdmi cable to component cables?

component is 1080i i think. 5100 will be fine UNTIL you get your blu-ray. It is well well worth the money to up to the 6100 or 7100. I bought a 5100 a few months ago and already upgraded my receiver for the audio aspects.
