i recently purchased the sony 60" xbr gw2, along with the sony dvpns725p progressive scan dvd player.

ecstatic about the tv. it's awesome! i'm a bit skeptical on the player. video quality is decent...but i'm pretty sure it can be better...especially together with the tv.

my question is. is there another player i should look into purchasing? i prefer to be under $300. although salesperson says i should get something nicer to get the best pq. he recommends the pioneer elite. i think the dv47. or the dv45.

but i keep reading about the denon 1600 and panasonic xp30/xp50. supposed to be really good.

what to do?

Forget the salesperson - he will only recommend what he makes the most money on and what he carries, not whats best for you!

Indeed the Denon DVD-1600 would be the best choice since the other models are not available any longer. Several online retailers have the Denon 1600 for $329, I even found one thats only $277. Do a price search on pricegrabber.com

i see that crutchfield has it for $329.

so does the denon have the chroma bug that i've been reading about? also...is this denon player $200 better than the sony player that i currently have?

if not...maybe i should just stick with the sony. $200 more is a lot.

what do you think?

The Denon 1600 does not have the chroma bug. If a better picture is worth $200 to you then yes get it. To me it was well worth the price I paid.

i don't notice the chroma bug on my sony player. i just checked. but of course...it has the blurred effect when panning or fast movements. jittered motion.
