I don't watch any TV so whether or not it supports HDTV is of no concern, there's nothing worth watching imo.

I do however watch loads of movies (and sometimes Futurama, DS9 or Family Guy which are 4:3) on DVD.

The projector can be at most 13' from the wall it's going to be projecting on, sitting distance will be about 9' in a very low light room. I can buy liner for my curtains and it will be pitch black.

I have looked at the Infocus X1, Optoma H30 and BenQ 6100 online and read reviews, all of which are in my price range btw. I just can't choose the best for my viewing habits/viewing distance etc.

I would suggest a 16:9 native like the Sanyo Z1, Panasonic 300u or Infocus 4805. I suggest this because I believe widescreen content should be larger than 4:3 content and NOT letterboxed within a 4:3. I suggested some of the lower priced PJs and I would suggest a 45" x 80" image from that viewing distance.

i would suggest the x1 as your dvd player does not have a great deinterlacer and the x1 does. Feed the x1 a component interlaced signal through it's component to special s video port adaptor.

Thanks Bobby_M, the Sanyo Z1 looks perfect, right around the cost of a X1 and BenQ 6100 but has seperate VGA and Component inputs, which will come in handy when I want to play Doom 3 on it without having to unplug the cables to switch from component to VGA.

Good point about his source, but I honestly don't think that's a good enough reason to go with the X1. If his content is primarily widescreen, I wouldn't want to lose all that res to letterboxing. Then there's the whole rainbows issue which would rule it out unless he demoed it and confirmed it doesn't bother him. Granted, I own a Z1 which I chose over the X1 so I'm already biased.

What about this solution:

Get the Z1 and then use my computer for playing DVDs/games and use my Pioneer for SACD/DVD-Audio discs.

Wouldn't that setup be better then getting an X1 and using it to deinterlace DVDs from my Pioneer player?

Why would anyone take the 51 over the 20. Aside from the CR (which I don't believe is anywhere near 6000:1) what other reason do you have to buy the 51. The lumens and the res are LOWER than the 20.

No HD TV? No HD sports? And old 4x3 movies. I'd rather cut the lawn or go shopping with my wife:eek:

If Farscape, Futurama, Lone Gunmen, X-Files, Deep Space Nine were still on I'd be watching HDTV all the time but sadly they're all in never never land. Plus I can't stand commericals.

My favorite teams went down hill (49ers and Bulls), not really interested in sports anymore.

I actually don't have any 4:3 movies, all of the oldies I like for instance The Good The Bad The Ugly or Bridge on the River of Kwai are in widescreen so I'm good to go.
