Hello, I am new to AVS Forum, but have been reading posts here for a while. I realize that similar questions have already been posted but I am looking for a system for under $600. I realy would like to get my hands on a refurb ht-7100 from shoponkyo but who knows then this will be back in stock.

Should I wait for this set to come back at the $499 refurb price or should I purches the sr606 receiver and somthing like the polk 6750 5.1 and buy 2 more speakers to complete the 7.1 at another time.

Are there any other suggestions besides the polk 6750? Also, I am concerend about the smaller sub than the one included with the ht-7100 and the exclusion of the ipod dock which is important to me.

I have been reading alot of very good info on AVS forum I am just confused as to if I should purches a speaker set now or wait for the 7100 to come down in price. Any help is appreciated.

The Polk 6750 is really nothing special and the 7100 would probably be a better deal. If you bought an Onkyo 606 for $350, what is the maximum price you'd be willing to pay for speakers? Do you really want 7.1?


If you want 7.1 speakers and an iPod dock under $600 just get the HT-S7100.

I would not like to spend more than $250 for 5.1. I am not too concerned about the other 2 speakers untill more blurays come out in 7.1 I just want to have the option down the road.

I do realize that the onkyo speakers are not the best and if i get a 5.1 set that has better speakers, I can always get 2 even better speakers for front left and right and move everythign else back to surround and rear surround.

Are there any other suggestions besides the Polk for under $250 with a good sub?

you can also frequently check www.accessories4less.com (an authorized Onkyo reseller) for refurbished S7100 systems. They are also out of stock now, but they have them more often than not.

It’s just really difficult to get good 5.1 for $250, you’d need to push your budget up a few hundred. That’s why HTiB’s are popular, they’re priced in a sweet spot.

I have a guy in my area willing to sell me 6 yamaha NS-A638 and a MTX SW2 Subwoofer for $225. Does this sound like a good deal. Has anyone had experience with either of these products. Also can is this is a good deal can anyone recomend a center channel speak or under $100.
